BTT: I don't know if the universe is trying to test me. The ONLY good thing going in my life is my career and now it's going to sh1t. I just found out last Friday that our VP in HQ is hiring an AVP for a new role in our team. I found it really insulting that they created an AVP position for a new role while my position has been in existence for over 10 years! I told our Manila VP that I was willing to transfer to that new role to get the AVP job but she said I need a 2 yr tenure as Manager before I am qualified for AVP promotion. I've only been Manager for less than a year BUT I DO NOT believe that BS. They are just using technicalities as an excuse. Kung gusto may paraan, kung ayaw may dahilan! I also was not qualified for Manager promotion but our former VP in HQ was able to work around that.

I knew my career would suffer when our former VP in HQ left! Now I don't feel like going to work anymore. It's year end and my reports are piling up. My VP in Manila said they will nominate me for an award but I do not want that!!! ANO YAN PAMPALUBAG LOOB?!? 500 EUR will not make me happy. What I want is the AVP title. I've been doing an AVPs job since last year (absorbed the job of our AVP that they force retired). My friends and I have a feeling that our VP in Manila has someone else in mind kaya hindi ako yung pinasok for AVP. I told my German boss that if I am planning on resigning because of this and he said he will talk to the new VP. My Mom said I should not insist on what I want and this is a sign that I should leave the company

If I may chime in my 2 cents, and I hope you don't take it negatively:

- The simple reason why they hired someone else is because they don't want to jump the hoops to get you promoted.

- I've not met anyone at the AVP position in any industry who goes to work at 5pm (except BPOs but they have diff shifts). Even if we're moving towards an output-based instead of time-based recognition of work, an AVP should set the tone for the ways of working of the rest of the org.

- Your only options are to deal with it and wait for the next round of promotions, or leave. In both cases, you have to work towards making yourself very marketable to bosses.

- Marketability comprises of 3 factors - performance, image, and exposure (PIE)

- Performance is simple enough - your KPIs. An additional angle will be the context and manner in which your KPIs were achieved. If you were able to achieve revenue growth despite a tough market, that's more commendable than someone with double digit growth in a naturally growing market.

- Image is what decision-makers think of you: who is Cathy? Is she leadership material, does she look like she can head the company? Etc etc. You work on your image by putting on a good show every time the spotlight shines on you. Attitude and work ethic play a big part here.

- Exposure is if bosses know who you are. This is about how you commercialize your performance. The reality is that know matter how good you are at your job, if noone knows about it, it doesn't matter.

- If you decide to leave your job, it's 100% sure that you won't find any other company as lenient as your current. So I would advise that if the leniency is a very big factor for you, then count your blessings and be grateful that the leniency is there rather than gloat that the promotion isn't.

I missed one promotion cycle before. They said I was too new to the company because I was only 1.5 years in at the time. What I did was show everyone that I can outperform the newly promoted guy (who became my boss). I got promoted 6 months after, but left the company anyway (I realized a lateral transfer to a better company was still a better long-term choice than a promotion, small fish big pond vs big fish small pond).

Whatever you decide on, the important thing is to have a decision and act on it. Good luck. [emoji106]

No. Our working hours is 9 am to 6 pm. I told my previous manager that I am coming in late since the reports come in late also so I am saving the company OT pay I don't file OT or night differential so I guess they don't mind. Everyone knows that I would rather die than go to work on a holiday so wala sila OT cost sakin

When I come in at 5 pm, I file that as half day. One time pumasok ako 6 pm. I never heard the end of it from my friends

Technically, I have no boss here in Manila since our entire team was transferred to India and I was supposed to move to HQ. The problem is my move was disapproved by the worker's council in HQ. So I was left kind of floating. Since I have no more team here in Manila they made me report direct to a VP. Since our VP is too high up the ladder, she does not really bother with me anymore. She just lets me do what I want to do.

That's what friend in HQ told me. They should instead hire a Manager (same as my level) reporting to me. Cost savings and at the same time my build up as AVP. I will definitely complain if they hire a new AVP.

It looks like delikado pa ko. My friend in HQ talked to our new VP in HQ and our new VP is DEPENDENT on Manila for decisions.

WTF!!! How could that be!?! Head office steers and directs Manila and not the other way around. This is the problem because our new VP NEVER handled people before unlike our former VP na assertive at tiklop lahat pag nagsalita.
