February 3rd, 2019 09:32 PM #12Don’t know what kind of cars had issues, but I decided to take their advice...can’t go wrong w OEM lubricants. So my Ford uses Motorcraft Mercon V and my Kia uses Zic XP-III. My Toyota still hasn’t had its ATF changed as casa says Toyota ATF WS is a lifetime oil...still might change at 40k km though. My Honda is new so haven’t thought about ATF change yet.

February 5th, 2019 10:49 AM #15Yes, that is why I buy the oil myself from Lightning Automotive (they specialize in Ford/Chevy/FCA parts) and make sure it is Mercon V. What I mean is that as long as you use the correct OEM ATF your tranny is less likely to act up or feel different after a fluid change.

February 5th, 2019 11:06 AM #16I have my doubts about any oil labeled as “lifetime fill”. In the US, Toyota vehicles that use WS are lifetime fill except if vehicle is used for towing, in which case they recommend changing at 60k miles. Since trannys are sealed, main culprit for ATF degradation is heat...interminable Metro Manila stop and go traffic makes your tranny run hot because of constant gear changes and prolonged idling time.
