Yesterday my car had its 35k PMS at the casa. Going home, a tak tak tak sound came from the top part of the engine. The sound would increase along with revving the engine.

This morning, the sound was still there. I called my service advisor and had him listen to the engine. He said they will come to my house to check on the engine. When I turned on the engine again the sound was gone.

Last PMS (30k) was AUG 13 using fully synthetic oil. The car ran 5k to 6k at the most. I opted NOT to have flushing and treatment for the 35k PMS. Possible scenarios according to my friends:

    1. Tappet sound only

    2. There was a sludge and oil did not go up the engine resulting in the sound. Natanggal sludge so the sound went away.

    3. Dumulas mounting and went back to proper seating

    4. Oil pump problem

Check engine oil did not light up. WTF could have happened when I just had my PMS? My car is out of warranty so I am really worried. I am hoping for the best case scenario according to Archie which is the tappet lang.

Get back to casa to log a complaint. Job done to your car is written on PMS receipt and problem occured only after their last-touch job, definitely it warrants for workmanship backjob. It could be just a loose parts, have them double check asap.

Check oil level for overfilled, underfilled, or no oil. Oil indicator should light in the dash and dissapear when engine running. If it doesn't, do not operate the engine and report to casa for possible oil sender or pump failure.

Casa is on their way to my house now. I assume this is logged in my record? Oil level is perfect and color yellow. I am just wondering how the heck could they eff up a PMS?

Oil indicator did light up and disappear when the engine is running. They will try to fix it at home or bring it back to the casa if they need further check daw. This is so stressful. I am thinking could this be related to the sludge issue of Toyota engines? But I used fully synthetic and followed the 5k mark naman

you need good quality oil and oil filter to prevent sludge.

35K PMS is just an ordinary lube service. Its basically draining the old oil, unscrewing the old filter, installing the new filter, and pouring in new oil.

Oh yeah, while your old oil is draining, the Toyota tech would just check (eyeball) your belts, battery poles, brake/clutch fluids, brake pad thickness, etc. Check your service manual its all there.

Its all just checking, noting it down on the service job order if there's anything out of the ordinary. Then service advisor calls you if the situation needs fixing, other wise its all just tick, tick, tick on the checklist.

A bit of cold start tappet noise is IMHO "normal" in some cases. Its on a case to case basis though, very subjective.

Casa people will bring my car back to the casa. They used like a stethoscope and I heard they said palyado nga and that the sound is indeed coming from the top of the engine. WTF could have happened to my car's engine when it only ran 35k in 4 years and I follow the oil change religiously naman. I never had any noise in my car when starting the engine in the past. It was always silent.

I've been having my casa with PMS ever since. Nakakatakot pa because the casa person said a similar thing happened to a client but the noise came out of the first week the car was bought. My car just turned 4 and out of warranty

Nothing to worry about... The sound went away so impossible na katok makina.

Pagkakaiba ng tappet sound sa katok... Typewriter sound tappet, katok banging sound and usually followed by smoke sa exhaust.

Edit: palyado tunog? Dun ka kabahan. Haha.

Nagkaron ka ng bigbody before diba cathy,
same with me, my previous ride is 4afe powered corolla GLi,
self adjusting yung valves din nun, ang lakas ng tappet noise in cold starts
and eventually will tone down hanggang maliliit na tick sound nalang matitira.

baka nga hindi na nagself adjust kaya umingay padin.
    hopefully walang malaking gastusin.
