Di lang 30 mins. That's why the traffic condition there is already a case of extreme driving conditions. Hence the need to do maintenance more often. This is further worsened by family drivers who leave the car idling in the parking lot, with their feet on the dashboard... I see this everytime in Megamall. Oh boy...

Ok lang yan, you know your car is not abused and that's better. Ako rin I keep it below 2000rpm and 30mph, minsan 25mph pa para safe. I don't mind being passed, once I reach operating temp ako naman mag-overtake.

By the time makalabas ako ng subdivision namin, mainit na yung makina.

Ang hindi ko ginagawa is yung mag rev hard ng engine right after starting it lalo na sa umaga. Kaya after starting it sa umaga wait lang ako ng 3 to 5 seconds para maka ikot yung oil sa makina.

no matter how much I tell my Father. he still doesn't believe me... "idling" is an old wive's tale...

even on changing oil, he still use the crap 1:1 Oil/Gas - Oil/Diesel for flushing...

My dad does warms his car up while eating breakfast.

Kaya sigurong sinabing idling is bad, because it wastes fuel. (yung newer models)

No vehicle was ever designed to be idled for long periods of time. Kung ganon yung mga sasakyan, eh di generator na lang yung ginawa instead of that. Any vehicle idled for long periods will develop carbon deposits in the engine, be it in the combustion chamber or sa sparkplugs, or kung san man. That's why pag yung kotse ay nasanay sa stop and go traffic, sabay binanat sa highway, pakiramdam ay hirap siya. On other boards, the "cure" is to give it an "Italian tune up" once in a while.

Pagstart kase nasa 1.5rpm sya and after about a minute or 2 saka lang mag-normalize.

    Hmm. how about Turbocharged engines?

we idle the santa fe for about a minute to cool down the turbo.

Im still researching if Variable Geometry Turbo is still required to have some cooling down before engine shut-off.

Isn't it indicated in the manual? In the Starex manual, the instruction is to let the engine idle after excessive or high speed driving. Of course, the Starex only has a turbocharger with CRDI, and not VGT, but I'd be surprised if Hyundai didn't mention anything in the manual.

Variable geometry does not have anything to do with cooling. VGT is just like putting your finger on the garden hose to increase pressure then removing it when pressure is sufficient.

It is still cooled the same way turbos have been cooled for the longest time. By oil [and coolant in some cases]. So a cool down is still ideal.

OTEP: you are correct sir in that illustration. Im just wondering why didn't put a supercooler or a water-in-a-radiator type of cooling system for these.

MIkey: i haven't finished reading it yet.

sorry if this is a no brainer. kahit po ba AT at 1500RPM after 30 sec pwede na i-drive yung car? guilty din kasi ako sa idling na yan. i usually idle the car for 3 to 5 minutes before driving off.

masyado naman matagal yang 3-5min na idling mo. sayang na sa gas yan without any purpose.

ako kahit masama pa yang pag-iidle ng engine pagka-start, gagawin ko pa rin yan for at least 1 to 1.5 minute. Ano bang masisira kung naka-idle, at least the engine is running on its lowest rpm habang umiikot yong langis sa buong makina. di naman kailangang hintayin na tumaas yong temp, basta masiguro lang na well protected na lahat ng parts ng makina bago i-rev ng up to 2000 rpm.

ganyan kasi yong neighbor ko, halos kaka-start lang takbo agad, at maririnig mo talaga yong ingay ng makina habang umaalis and yong car is only over a year old.
