The A/T tends to be sluggish and I know that first hand since I also drive a car with A/T tranny. To gain any decent amount of performance, you should be looking at additional 20hp or more. To get that, you would be looking at turbo upgrades or engine swaps already. N/A mods would just waste your money.

What you want to do with the headers is to create a smooth flow for the gasses to follow. The CAT at that position would be like putting a big rock in the middle of a smooth flowing stream of water.

Also you have to make sure the CAT is of a low restriction type. Most modern CATs are of this type to help reduce the backpressure. Old type cats tend to lower engine performance because of restrictions to the flow of exhaust gasses.
