It can be used for differentials and trannys.

We have 2 diesel-fed engines here, and usually sa umaga pag bagong andar ang makina hirap ipasok sa 2nd gear. Do you think it is safe to put 140 grade para mas malapot at baka sakaling mas madali na ipasok ang kambyo?

Another question is from the 4WD aspect. Ganun din ang circumstance early morning drives may naririnig akong sound coming from the front solid diffs.

    90 gamit ko kasi..............sabi mo eh he..he

Someone told me before that putting in thicker gear oil would indeed make gearing in a bit tougher. But pag laspag na ang tranny mas oks daw thicker oil. Sabi lang sakin...

kimpOy::: Yun nga rin kasi pagkakaalam ko 90 grade common on all vehicles, but a friend pointed out that 140 grade gear oil could help with the noise I'm hearing over my front diffs.

pajerokid::: How would you grade yung laspag stage ng tranny? After the kilometers it ran?

Well, there's only one thing to find out, and hope it will work. Replace the front diffs and tranny with 140 grade oil. While the transfer case and rear diffs will remain 90.

May makukunan po ba kayo ng parts dyan incase I decide to change it at the same time?

i recommend you use Castrol Hypoy LS gear oil sa rear diff mo, it is designed for limited slip diffs, don't know lang the viscosity. baka effect na yan nag water fording ang noise in your diffs, we usually repack bearings and change gear oils once a month if we fcross rivers because of the roads we pass by going to the quarry.

btw have you extended your diff breathers?

ARB::: My ride is not equipped with rear LSD.

Diff breathers infront are normally extended up to the engine compartment for Patrol models. While the rear are placed in one of the cross members. Hindi ko na pinalitan ito, may extra line pa naman for the suspension strokes.

yes may diff locks ang patrol, suggest lang maybe better ang castrol since it is for lsd and it may have additives that is good for lockers also.

we usually extend the breathers for water fording so that water will not enter thru it.

di ba auto locking hubs ang front nang patrol that can be manually locked for hard off roading? so if you use it on 2wd the front diffs dont spin maybe the noise is coming form somewhere else. just a thought.

So far hindi pa naman ako pinasukan ng tubig while water fording, I could assume it is still effective sa stock place nya.

Yep, hybrid locks ito. Auto and manual lock ang function. I was thinking where could the sound come from, baka pa repack ko na rin muna yung front bearings ko.

    Ungas,
The Y60 service manual specifies SAE90 or 75w90 or 80w90 for temps below 40C for frt and rr diffs(GL5), manual tranny and transfer(GL4). Think 140 is too thick which may hasten wear when diffs are cold.

Have you considered using synthetic gear oil?- gives smoother shifts.

What's the brand of your other diesel, isuzu uses engine oil on their manual trannies.

I use a GL5 gear oil on my rear differential. I think its a SAE90. GL5 for LSD equipped rigs. Penn something I think yung brand, gawa sa U.S. Php 250+ per liter. 1.8 liters needed sa likod.

mas madaling mag flow ang 90 compared to 140. pag medyo old na ang diffs. pede na yan 140, although medyo mabigat dalhin pag cold ang weather.

I just remembered what sounds it makes, para ba syang sound ng kotse running in reverse at 10km/h. I knew the manual says SAE 90, but I already change the gear oils twice and it still produces the same sound again and again.

No I haven't tried synthetic gear oils, do you have any ideas where I could purchase it?

The other diesel ride is a 1998 Hyundai Starex, which has the same symptoms of hard engaging in 2nd gear during early morning runs.

    Synthetic gear oils available locally:
Mobilube SHC 75w90 or Mobil 1 synth gear oil 75w90- P500/L
    Redline MTL90 or 75w90 gear oil- P600/qt
I'm using redline on both transm and rear diff, no problems with noise or sticky shifts. Plan to use Mobilube SHC on next vehicle.

Have you checked cross-joints on front prop shafts?

Nope, the sound usually came in 2nd or 3rd gear running at 50-60km/h.

Take noted of your choices, thanks! Where could I purchase them?

I usually have all the prop shafts checked for any bad signs of vibration monthly. Even the common greasable tips.
