UNGAS, ugong ba yung naririnig mo sa tranny and diff mo? hindi kaya yung gears na ang may ugong? kung gears, even a 140 gear oil will not solve the noise.

isa lang ang kilala kong magaling mag-rebuild ng tranny/diff gears in the Philippines, i.e., Precision (i think ISO 9000 certified sila). They can even ceramic coat your gears for durability and reduction in running temperature. Precision is a certified machine shop of all BMW and Mercedes dealerships. Medyo pricey but with guaranteed quality.

just my 2 cents though!

woodfire::: Nagpalit muna ako ng axle bearings and repacked it with high temp grease. I will still try to evaluate it baka sa bearings nanggaling yung sound. The old bearings showed signs of wear and it produced a tarnish color that indicated bearing overheat. BTW, changed all bearings and oil seals on 4 corners thanks to the warm and hospitable service station of chieffy. (may free miryenda pa!)

Hehehe, I guess you know VW Precision Automotive. :D I know that machine shop too, especially the owner Mr. A. Inducil. But I know one more shop that deals with tranny and diff gears, Gerco Machine Shop in QC.

Ako I just had my gear oil changed. 90 sa trans at 140 both sa front and rear differentials. So far so good.

    Ungas,

Your dunlop M/T tires are one of the most quiet Mud tires around but thaey still make a whinning bad diff sound......

My primary guess would have to be your center bearing holding the propeller shaft. Baka po natuyuan ng grasa ito. Better have your suking gasoline station grease all the moving parts and greasable joints. Pag hindi nawala ang ingay malamang sa bungo na ang tama or it could also be your wheel bearings. :D

    Sir Ungas,

Wala naman pong noise with the Caltex Thuban API GL-4 SAE 140 gear oil na pinakabit ko sa differentials.

roydok::: Ah ok, balak ko rin sana palitan last time as was at chieffy's Caltex station ng 140 grade oil. Kaso bigla kong naalala baka di bumagay sa rear diff lockers ko yung lapot.

    Ungas,
Did you solve the noise problem from the front diff?

    Roydok,
Most diffs require a GL5 oil, does your rig specify GL4 only for either diff? What GL rating did you use on the transmission?

Noise problem is still there, I didn't bother to change the present 90 grade gear oil I'm using now. Though the sound only emits during its first kilometers during early morning runs.

From personal experience, I recommend you stick with 90 weight for the tranny and transfer case. 140 weight is okay for the diffs. Especially when you frequently trail the vehicle which adds more load on the gearing. If you hear a whinning sound in the diffs, have those checked immediately because this could mean that the engagement between ring and pinion may not be properly set. This can lead to premature wear of the teeth. 140 weight will not help and at best will only mask the sound. Get them checked asap.

Wolverine::: Do you realy think that the ring and pinion is not setup properly? I only hear it during early morning rounds, probably when the oil has settled overnight. But it seems to work out fine when used for trails, no grumbling sounds not even a hum.

And lastly, I don't have any idea who can dismantle and return the front difffs back to its own form.

ganyan talaga pag morning...bombahin mo yung clutch para tataas ang fluid sabi nya...i did it and it work :D :D :D

    hehe

baka po kasi same dilemma :D

So far I've checked other Patrols also having the same symptoms. :D

it may not come from the front diff, diba naka free ang hubs mo when in 2wd mode so the ring and pinion does not turn inside. it could be coming from somewhere else.

Did you use the same Sae90, GL5 oil in the transmission and transfer case? The Y60 only needs a GL4 in the tranny since additives in a GL5 may do damage.

ARB::: Mukhang ugong ng diffs sa harap. It sounds like a car doing reverse on 10km/h.

jackaroo::: I did not notice the GL grade used. The oil came from Petron 90 gear oil.

GEAR OIL: What do you use? 90 or 140 grade
