The 5w40 is ok. It wont harm your engine. Although, when I used Shell's 5w40 on my dad'd BMW, it lost about a litter after around 4000 kms. No leaks and less than 20,000 kms on the odometer. Another tsikoteer, ( I think it's Niky) also had a similar experience with this oil.

If you can, use 5w30 or 10w30 energy conserving oil on your next oil change. I recommend Royal Purple. It gave me better FC compared to Caltex Havoline Energy.
