Kahit sealed SMF or MF may vents naman lahat ng car batteries doc. IIRC Amaron has 2. Yung mga UPS batteries lang ang walang vents so they were designed to handle the gassing.

We know the batteries have been leaking. Is it possible that low fluid level caused the short circuit when starting?

I was considering the CTEK but for me the cost was just unjustifiable. It's practically the price of a new battery. For the price of one CTEK, I can get three off-brand smart chargers to service the other vehicles. With that, I can keep the battery healthy with minimal inconvenience. Anyway, I just need it during this quarantine period. Once I begin driving back to the office, I'd probably recondition the battery once every few months nalang.

Justification ko nalang to get the CTEK was share siya with the other family cars. If each battery can extend 1 yr of it's life, bawi na agad CTEK. But we'll never know kung na extend ba talaga cause of the charger hehe

No. The caps typically have holes that allows pressure build-up to escape. But if dirt has accumulated, or if the battery is gassing faster than the vents can allow the hydrogen gas to escape, then that could lead to a problem.

So any final investigation.conclusion of the incident? Napaisip din ako my 7month old Amaron for 2 monhts na intermittently being connected sa isang CTEK alike smart charger..So nakaconnect ba nun gabi na yun sa smart charger yun nun sumabog?

as long as the battery is in good condition, it can be re-charged.
many battery stores offer this service, for a minimal fee. sometimes, libre pa nga.

if you can still start the vehicle, the alternator therein should be able to re-charge the battery. run it for 30 minutes or so. gamitin nyo habang nag-re-recharge, para hindi naman sayang gaso.
if you can't start the car no more, but it is a MT, try push-starting it. "it's a learned skill." heh heh.

a basic battery charger is available in the mall for about 2000 bucks. it's a nice thing to have, if one's car is an automatic.

So, like I mentioned a few posts back, my Amaron's warranty will run out next month. When the time comes, this battery will no longer be bound to the manufacturer, which means I can do anything I want to it. I'm really looking forward to popping off the caps to check the water level and maybe even go as far as use a hydrometer. Gives me a chance to inspect the vents as well to make sure they're not clogged up.

Has anyone done this to their Amaron and found a need to replenish the battery water? How often do you do it?

not to amaron, but to my recently-out-of-warranty (by 3 weeks) and functionally ir-reviveable motolite.

Not outright.

Bulk-charge the 3SM first while connected to the donor car (with engine running) for a few minutes. Start the stalled vehicle once there's sufficient charge in the 3SM battery so that not all current comes from the donor vehicle.

Just as long as the Battery is not fully flat/discharged kaya ng even a small size battery. Concept is to add extra Amps on it kse naka parallel connection. And yep exactly yun sabi ni *oj88, dapat lagi running engine ng Donor and don't right away start it. Another important is the Quality jumper cable, marami now Malaki lang hitsura but ampaw konti lang copper inside, kaya hindi sya makajump start.

I remember during the 80's that a Motolite competitor started selling those (Please, those who remember what brand it was, refresh my memory.... it's driving me insane). At the time, Motolite was using the traditional hard rubber encasement.

Anyway, it was marketed to be easier on maintenance as you can literally see the water level as well the condition of the plates. Today, you can only see transparent cases only on certain small batteries like those used on motorcycles.

When I was a kid ang remember ko lang yun small battery ng 125 Yamaha Motor namin...Yuasa see through talga and kita yung brownish plates nya...At that age akala ko ganun lang tlaga kalalaki ang mga Battery hehehe..Then when I was in Grade school na dun ko nalaman na ang Motolite and others, Too many car battery assembly shop sprouted in and nagcame up ng kanyang mga brand na all ending in LITE. lol, Ang alam ko lang meron one brand na White casing starts with V ung brand....Varta yata not sure..pero hindi sya yun totally see thru..maaninag mo lang water level nya kase nga white yun casing na parang lagayan ng gallong ng suka kaya kita mo ung water level. Yun yung battery ng Cimaron Jeep nun and Ford Fiera.

my guess is,
it may have been convenient,
but it may have not been strong enough.

i have not even a vague memory of that see-thru battery case for cars...
but i do have memories of a transluscent dirty white case...

Outlast was blue. Powerhouse, a Ramcar brand, was white. Prior to Unson Motolite & Ramcar merging in the 90s, they were competitors.
