With decoupling in their minds, even though China is already doing it for them like banning new orders or even deliveries of new Boeing planes.

But the US still wants China to buy from them.

China wants to "diversify" their agriculture "supply chain" away from the US.hehehe

U.S. farm leaders, visiting China, talk up agriculture trade

Oilseeds and grains are the top U.S. export to China, accounting for $25.4 billion last year, far ahead of other goods such as semiconductors, but Brazil has been eating into the U.S. share of the Chinese market after harvesting bumper crops of soybeans and corn.

China has been pushing to diversify its import sources in the years since former U.S. President Donald Trump launched a bruising trade war and amid rising geopolitical risks, opening its market to Brazilian corn late last year.

Imports of Brazilian soybeans are up 18% in the first nine months of 2023 compared with the same period last year, compared with an 8% increase in U.S. arrivals. Almost 4 million tons of Brazilian corn has reached China, with more on the way.

The delegation, the industry's largest to China since 2016, will travel to Shanghai for next week's annual China International Import Expo, where the USDA is hosting a pavilion for the first time since the event started in 2018.

Complains that it's hard to do business in China but too greedy to leave China altogether... Too bad this isn't the 19th century.

EU threatens tougher stance on China as concerns over Beijing's economic policies grow in build-up to summit

In multiple speeches this week, the bloc's leadership dangled the prospect of more adversarial trade policies should China not open its market to European firms and stop what they perceive as economic bullying.

They also slammed what they said were Beijing's disruptive influence on the global stage, at a time when multiple conflicts are swirling close to EU borders.

Despite a stream of high-level European visits to China in recent months, frustration is mounting that Beijing is unwilling to yield on any substantive points.

"We must also be clear-eyed on how China's global posture is changing. We see a strong push to make China less dependent on the world, and the world more dependent on China. Geopolitics and geoeconomics cannot be seen as separate any more," von der Leyen said.

Von der Leyen - who is expected to secure a second term as commission chief next year - acknowledged that China is "our most important trading partner in terms of goods", but accused Beijing of failing to play by the rules of international trade.

The European Central Bank quizzed 65 EU multinationals to find that de-risking strategies dominate their plans for the next five years. Almost two-thirds of respondents said dependency on China posed significant risk to supply chains, with the United States a distant second on 12 per cent.

However, while companies may fret about the risks of doing business in the world's second largest economy, doing something about it may prove to be more difficult. Some 94 per cent of respondents said it would be "hard" or "very hard" to source substitute inputs for their products.
