'HID Glare Shield' - a good solution to reduce HID glare?

Stumbled upon this on google, as I was doing some research on retrofits:

DIY coke can curved into a U-shape to prevent reflections from the reflectors going in an upward (glare) direction, therefore the only light that should be reflecting off the reflectors is light shining in a downward angle.

So what do others think? A good idea or a recipe for disaster? Judging from the links/feedback, so far so good naman...

Hehe wow that quick huh... maybe the glare shield was too protective and heat was being trapped inside?

Right now I just finished making a pair using coke cans fixed it into the HID casing and okay naman sya, no more glare and may cut off-line na, unlike before - sabog.

Tsaka kung mapapansin mo sir, lahat ng buga ng HID concentrated sa taas, so ang mangyayari doon pupunta lahat ng heat..

Okay, I've done it na. My neighbor (who helped me) thinks I'm a bit crazy to use a coke can but so far so good....

These are the pics I took before I went out and drove around. I drove for around 45mins with HID on all the time:





Eto sya when on: (yes needs some tweaking)



In terms of glare, wow I can stare into my headlight now even for only a few seconds, before hindi talaga pwede, masakit sa mata.

In terms of light output, I estimate it to have decreased by around 20-30% but it's still good, the cut-off is visible when taking corners. the important bit is very minimal glare for oncoming vehicles.

In terms of the cut-off, hindi sya straight na straight as in projectors but friendly naman sya for oncoming vehicles (i didn't get flashed at all).

Oh and walang burnt marks sa reflectors, none at all - maybe because the can is more open than the philips (which is closed ata).

Tomorrow I'll take pics of the glare, light output etc...

Anyway not sure if I'm going to leave it there for the long-term, I'll give it a few days and see if any problems arise. If wala, I might think about having this made:



para mas maganda and hindi halatang 'cheap DIY job' hehe.

problem i can foresee in short/long term future is heat issues, as mentioned before heat is now restricted to one area this could shorten the life of the HID and it's surroundings.

Yes the best way to go is definitely projectors but life's full of shortcuts, and this shortcut in particular might just be feasible
