Actually, pwede naman. With the Vios, at that speed 3rd gear should give you enough engine braking. To lock it in 3rd gear, off mo lang yung OD mo. Though if I'm not mistaken, max speed that the Vios' second gear can handle is around 90-100 kph. But Toyota's trannies are conservative and if shifting to 2 will put the revs too close to the redline, it won't shift down.

May 12th, 2013 09:57 PM #107nope, you can shift to d,2 or l regardless of speed, it is actually recommended(check your car's manual) specially when your going up hill(in order not to loose momentum) and downhill(in order to slow momentum)
never put your auto tranny in neutral while moving it is just plain dumb to save a few peso worth of fuel and sacrifice your safety(and passengers or third person)
if you're buying a small car and wants fuel efficiency, always get a manual tranny (although the auto tranny now is leap forwards compared to their counterparts a decade ago) or go for the newer version of automatic transmission such as those found in the fiesta and the likes.

When in doubt or you wouldnt like to change gear anyway, better put it in D for it automatically shifts to d appropriate gear.
3, 2 and L are mainly for engine breaking. 3 for slight engine break, 2 for stronger breaking and L for maximum engine break.
Nevertheless, if u prefer to use L instead of D which automatically shifts the appropriate gear for you, you can do as you wish.
Kung saan ka masaya, supurtahan da ka.

May 13th, 2013 01:40 AM #1102 and l(wala akong 3 sa mga auto namin) are used mainly for uphill to get the required torque, engine breaking is somewhat a secondary nature of it( nakalagay sa car manual ng mga auto namin) ang bawal is pag old school 4x4 ka, running in that speed then shifting to 4x4 definitely sira ang tranny mo(but nowadays meron ng flywire 4x4 where you can shift to 4x4 even at 100kph)
pag naka d ka lang tapos hirap na engine mo kawawa torque converter mo sayang yung energy
to the ts i strongly urged you to read your car manual
after buying a car, read your car manual
diyan mo kasi makikita yung mga differences like para saan yung N sa automatic(yung ibang engot ginagamit na pang freewheel na akala parang manual to save some gas) and kung para saan yung P or how to start an automatic and the uses of L - 2 or when to turn off\on the overdrive (some automatic no longer have the overdrive functions)
But it appears the issue is only in those units coming from the Alabama, USA plant. Nevertheless,...
