..and put the handbrake up otherwise you might roll up/down hill :D

But you should really put it in P when you're stationary!

    +1 but plus handbrake

anticipate your next braking point to avoid over acceleration.

SMooth and slow movements of the accelerator pedal. Don't floor it.

    lm723,
don't overcool the engine by removing the thermostat. it also disables the overdrive mode and prolongs the torque converter lockup. by overcooling, you are wasting the necessary heat to convert from heat energy to mechanical energy. lighter paint color also affects mpg by reducing the cooling load to the airconditioning or climate control.

No hard acceleration, no hard braking.

    1. light foot on the pedal
    2. pull up your foot from the gas pedal when approaching a stop sign or a curve
    3. turn off the air con when you're about to arrive to your destination
    4. N for short stops, P for parking
    5. regularly check your tires--underinflated tires are a no no

Always assume that there is someone else better than you out there.

You never know, we might accidentally meet sometime.

    thanks niky.
i checked my Vitara owner's manual now, 160k km ang nakasulat nga na ATF replacement interval doon eh for normal driving conditions hehe
pero sa severe driving conditions nakasulat doon na 20k km or 12 months. so maybe by December magpalit nako ng ATF after the rainy season

always treat metro manila driving as "severe".

(downside of center-dash console!).. kaya either 2 or OD-off ako... sobrang kupad na ng L

Never put in P while in traffic

errrr.... ulitin ko lang yung questions:

    - Is keeping the car in D more fuel efficient that putting it in N? Sabi kasi ni jut703: "Just keep it in D in all of those situations."

wala naman... added info lang sana... hehehe... syempre di lang fuel efficiency iisipin mo when you are using an AT... anyway, just put it in neutral when at full stop or when stuck in heavy traffic...
