karamihan sa mga kilala kong drivers, nasa 'D' lang palagi. Ung mga galing sa manual tranny lang ung mahilig mag lagay as 'N' during a stop.

As you have correctly surmised, the engine does consume more fuel and you do wear down your brake-system components more when you leave your transmission in D or Drive while the traffic light is red or when you’re idling and waiting.
With automatic transmissions, the engine is energizing or driving the transmission to move in the direction of the gear you've selected--forward or reverse.**When you keep it in gear*, you are telling your vehicle to move;**when you're on the brakes*, you're preventing motion. You're unnecessarily and slowly raising your automatic transmission fluid, wearing out your transmission clutches, and consuming more fuel because you're on the brakes to keep the car from inching forward. You're also unnecessarily wearing down and heating up your brake pads. By simply shifting to N or neutral there would be no need to apply the brakes with the amount of force required to resist forward motion.

Drive using D all the time or whenever possible, except when stopping for too long.
Overdrive should be "ON" all the time...unless you need to use your 3rd gear for overtaking and engine braking.
Accelerate gradually...and avoid sudden braking.
Check your tire pressure regularly. -I made sure to check it every 2 weeks.
Your Aircon setting also affects fuel economy. I set it to 26degC kahit tirik ang araw sa tanghali, lalakasan ko lang yung fan speed.
This routine for my 1.6Li A/T...i average 9km/li sa city and 13-14km/li sa highway.

September 15th, 2012 10:24 AM #66isa na ako dyan
pero based sa mga replies to this thread, most prefer shifting to N sa stop light kung it will take some waiting time. aside from fuel saving benefits, the tranny is not stressed daw

IMO, nasa nagmamaneho na yan pag tantya niya na sandali lang ung stop niya edi 'D' lang pero pag matagal stoplight edi shift sa 'N'. Nakakangalay din ung naka apak ka sa brake ng matagal.
