Another week, another peso rise... But this time, diesel went up by P1.50. Parang simbahan na yung gas station, once a week ang pila.

Eastern Petroleum to hike fuel prices on Saturday
    05/23/2008 | 01:49 PM

MANILA, Philippines - Oil company Eastern Petroleum on Friday announced an increase in the prices of its products starting Saturday morning, radio dzBB reported.

Radio dzBB's Lito Laparan reported that Eastern Petroleum will be implementing a P1.50 per liter hike in the price of diesel and P1 per liter increase in price of gasoline.

The report quoted the oil company as saying that rising oil prices in the international market caused the hike. - Amita Legaspi, GMANews.TV

P10 pa kailangan mabawi ng oil companies daw...

Gas prices to go up at midnight

MANILA, Phippines -- Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. and independent oil firm Eastern Petroleum Corp. announced Friday they will be increasing pump prices of gasoline by P1 a liter and of diesel and kerosene by P1.50 a liter starting one stroke after midnight or 12:01 a.m. Saturday.

EPC chair Fernando Martinez said in an interview the price hike was due to a "very big gap" between international and local prices.

"The Mean of Platts Singapore (benchmark price) for diesel has reached $160 a barrel," said Martinez, who is also chair of the Independent Philippine Petroleum Companies Association.

Asked to confirm whether domestic oil firms' under-recoveries, or the gap between increases in international prices and those at the local pumps, were now P10 a liter, he said this was "more or less" so.

"Unless there is a substantial correction in world prices, that would be a likely situation," Martinez said. "But this would have to be confirmed at the end of this month when we get the average price

With the pending P10 fuel price increase (P63/L gasoline; P53/L diesel) will you still be driving to work, school, family outings, etc?

I know I will. LPG power!!!

I can see some silver lining in all this. There will be less fuel guzzling vehicles on the road. There will be a real incentive for the local car companies to sell more fuel efficient cars. There is a good market for alternative fuel companies to make a good start.

I don't go out as much anymore and I plan my trips. I dread the day that I'll be paying for gas and parking - I think my whole salary will just go to transportation when I start working.

Yesterday I went home to Laguna and it was the first time I cringed everytime I had to step hard on the gas pedal. I didn't overtake as much anymore so I was running mostly at 60 kph. It took me forever to get to my destination. hehe. When I got back to Manila in the evening I had a full tank at P51.56/L before the 12:01 am increase. When I started driving it was just P12/L Those were the days...

yup... price of LPG isn't as high so it is still possible to travel to your destination in the comfort of your own car without that guilty feeling whenever you floor the accelerator to overtake the slow bus or jeepney on the road.

45+ liters * P29+, a little over 1.3k lang ang bill ko. Mas mura pa sana yan, kung dito ako magpa-fill sa LiquiGaz Pasig, * P27.20 only.

Woohoo! Ramdam ko na agad ang benefits of LPG conversion!

Hope this is not true. Rumour is spreading that diesel will rise by 7 pesos a liter by midnight. That would put it at almost at par will gasoline. This is due daw to the spike in demand in China. But I heard from the radio (confirmed) was LPG going up by 6 pesos a kilo this weekend, making a 11 kg tank cost 600 pesos from 540 pesos. Woe to the consumers...
