Depende kasi talaga sa needs/wants. Since toyota ang pinaka-maraming parts availability (siguro dmax/strada susunod) IMO mas ok yung hilux due to maintenance requirement. Pero boss ka naman sir eljo eh, hindi bugbog ata ride mo, strading sau dapat para maiba hehehe![]()
Yup, iba nga pero ok naman chassis ng toyota. AFAIK la silang problem dito so far. Pati sa mga rubber bushings and suspension parts, IMo sila ang isa if not pinaka-matibay. Definitely better tha ford/nissan based on my experience but I don't know sa isuzu.

I agree the hilux is just one tough rig and already been tested by time, but still its all up to driver on how to utilize the rig up to its limits...

Wow, ganda ng Strada mo!
Ngayon lang ako nakakita ng Strada ng hardcore off road. Panay Hilux nakikita ko eh.
Kaso tama si Ry_Tower pag maintenace at walang Mitsubishi sa area hassle pag nasira yung Strada. Also, mas malaki nga yung Hilux bed so mas lamang in terms of Utility.

Well, not all. Nagkaroon ng rusting problems yung Tacoma sa US dati. And I've read somewhere here that the IMV chassis is thinner than its counterparts.
But that's no problem with for most of us kung hindi naman talaga ipang haharabas - no qualms still with our innova at the moment. hehe.
Just a note. The Hilux/Fortuner/Innova computer boxes aren't waterproof... as evidenced by Ondoy. AFAIK yung sa Strada, it's sealed, so pwede talagang maglaro sa tubig. hehe
actually wala po yung sakin dyan mga sir...nahiram kasi yung strada ko at that time kaya di ako nakapag dala...so nag hitch nalang ako hehehe....

STRADA din choice ko for this forum, parang dual-purpose din because of it LOOKS and POWER "pamporma at pangharabas" ika nga, pero if there's an another option e bet ko Nissan Navarra for fuel-efficiency, for the power also and plus comfort.

If only between the two (2) and the scenario involves a lot of hauling, towing and climbing, stock trim-for-stock trim, i would definitely get the 3-litre Toyota Hilux D4-D even when you are comparing it against the new 2.5-litre Mitsubishi Strada "GTV" Di-D. The GTV emblem connotes that a variable-geometry turbo (VGT) is incorporated into the engine.
The 3-litre Hilux D4-D has long been equipped with a VGT, which Toyota refers to as variable nozzle turbo or VNT. Besides, it shares the same 1KD-FTV engine with the 3-litre Landcruiser Prado. The engine on the Hilux, however, is a detuned version of the 1KD-FTV of the Prado.
While almost all competitors are now just adapting the VGT onto their diesels, Toyota has long been using it since year 2000 when it came up with the 1KD-FTV engine for the Prado.
Factory (stock-trim) specs on the two are as follows:
Hilux - 163 metric-hp DIN at 3400 rpm, 343 Nm peak torque distributed from 1400 rpm to 3200 rpm
Strada GTV - 178 metric-hp DIN at 4000 rpm, 350 Nm peak torque distributed from 2000 rpm to < 2500 rpm
"TORQUE" is the one that gets you up the hill and NOT horsepower.... so if you see something where the peak torque is delivered at such a low rpm like 1400 rpm, and widely distributed all the way to the top, then that's the utility pickup you want.... Besides, anyone wants to wring-out the neck of their high-compression diesel engines up to 4000 rpm just to squeeze out the maximum horsepower from their pickup? The diesel's natural compression ratio of plus 17 : 1 is similar to a Formula One car's comp. ratio.
"FUEL-EFFICIENCY" also reckons itself where the peak torque is located BECAUSE this is the region along the rpm where the engine is running at most efficient.

Narrow naman pala peak torque ng Strada GTV chief, it is NOT broad ---- nagtaka nga mga nag-test nito claim ng Mitsubishi at 2000 rpm daw 350 Nm na samantala ang peak lang niya is at a high 3500 rpm.... ang ingay na ng makina nito haha!!!!
Looking at those dynographs above, lahat ng pickup variants ng Strada in stock-trim (not modified-trim) from the standard 2.5-litre na CRDi to the 3.2-litre and up to the 2.5-litre CRDi with VGT puros single peak point lang mga torque nila along the rpm hehehehe.... tsk tsk tsk.... The Strada GTV only makes 250 Nm at 1800 rpm NOT 350 Nm as publicised haha!!!! .... Besides it only makes 300 Nm pala at 2500 rpm na tsk tsk tsk (whereas the Hilux is already making 343 Nm 1100 rpm WAY EARLIER at 1400 rpm).... Parang kagaya din lang ng Nissan Navara pala ang Strada chief na single peak lang ang torque nito along the rpm (at 2000 rpm), sabay baba na kagad JUST RIGHT AFTER the sweet spot ahihi.... Kung may manual-transmission lang ito gaya ng Navara, downshift-ng-downshift para shootup lang ang rpm palagi ahihi....
A typical powerband from a diesel pickup should be broad when one intends to use it for hauling, towing and going up a hill, especially hills that are technical/ slippery and where traction and torque at low-end rpm takes precedence over sheer horspower....
....Quite of an example apart from the 3-litre Hilux's torque curve where it peaks up at 1400 rpm at 343 Nm and broadly delivers it all the way to 3200 rpm, is that of the 3-litre iTEQ VGS engine of the Isuzu DMax sold in Europe, Australia and Thailand (wala pa itong makina sa atin sa Pinas chief)
Pag ganyan ang powerband ng isang pickup where the torque's "sweet spot" is broad-or-wide, mas matipid yan sa consumo ng diesel kaysa sa higher-revving diesel engine dahil at low-rev range palang chief andiyan na ang ideal torque that you need to haul, tow, pull and go up that hill....

Inertia Dynamometer (chassis dynamometer) ?
Pangalawa huwag paghaluin ang results ng dalawang types ng test.
Sa Brake dynamometer kasi sinusukat kung hanggang saan talaga kaya ng engine magpaikot.
Whereas sa Inertia kung gaano lang nya kabilis eh accelerate ang drum.
So kung may mabasa kayo ng 250N-m hindi ibig sabihin nun hanggang doon lang kaya ng powers hehehe
Yung ascending na graph isang patunay na may ibubuga pa talaga kahit sakalin pa.
Besides yung kick ng piston na nagpoproduce ng torque ay dependent din sa amount ng fuel injected. So no wonder why parang pusit parin mag accelerate yung mga vehicle na diesel engine kahit new tech na makina nila.

YUP chief, napakatalino nga (kahit ano pang engineered-excuses ang gawin) na kailangang paiyakin muna ng 3500 rpm ang overrated Strada "GTV" para lang makuha mo at one-spot along the rev range ang 350 Nm haha!....Parang "anemic" din na Nissan Navara na 2000 rpm lang ang peak torque at lakas lumamon ng crudo ahihi

Tsip, uulitin ko lang ha iba ang results or yung trend ng graph between an engine dyno at chassi dyno.
Lalo na kapag automatic transmission pa ang sasakyan. Kung familiar kayo sa tinatawag na "torque converter" magkaka-idea na dapat kayo kung bakit iba ang trend ng engine dyno at chassi dyno. Kapag may "torque converter" between the engine and tranny, most of the torque at low rpm ay dumudulas lang at nacoconvert into heat.
Tsip hindi magpupublish ang mga manufacturer ng information na hindi tama lalo na kung ang mga info na yun ay verifiable. Kung gusto ninyo makita ang published torque curve ng 4D56-VGT na engine ng Strada, punta kayo sa Thailand site ng Mitsu.
