Which pickup should I choose this 2020?

My take on this is that all these new pickups are great when they’re new. Bagong bago, so okay talaga.

But down the road, maybe after 4-5 years, you’ll see which ones are really okay. Especially if you plan on keeping it for the long term.

The Hilux is very much known and proven to be reliable as well as adequate to suit most people’s needs. It isn’t as bare bones as the previous gen, with lots of features in the E and G variants. It may not be a stellar performer according to some reviews but its above average in all respects.

Nissan is okay, and the power and suspension are great, but di pa rin ako bilib sa reliability nya. Our new navara had the notorious kabig issue and it was only fixed on the third try by casa when they had the bridgestone service center fix it.

Ranger is the top performer on paper but I’ve had friends complain about its reliability like the transmission and electronics. Nagpalit na din sila sa hilux/fortuner. But hey when it runs, it runs very well. Maselan lang sya sa electricals if you’re planning on upgrading lights and horn. Its ride is also very good considering leaf springs din sya almost on par with Navara in comfort.

Dont rely also on the specs on paper, kasi iba din once you drive it yourself.

Honestly though, if you’re going to sink 1M++ of your hard earned money test drive them all and go for what your gut feels tell you. Mahirap mag rely sa sinasabi ng iba.

Reliability is not the only metric, otherwise why not settle for a dump truck which is arguably more reliable than a pickup truck.k

And thank you everyone for your inputs. It's now down to Toyota Conquest 4x2 AT vs Nissan Navara 4x4 VL AT. I can go either way, the deciding factor would be the offer of the banks. And the discount from the dealership and freebies. Would the sales agent still get a commission if I go for the Banks' regular scheme instead of the dealerships partnership scheme with the bank?

May 2.8 engine.. yun yata yung naka 4x4 with rear diff lock. Yung 2.4 engine 4x2

That's a wrong notion po. It does not apply to all. remember that some of the models you mentioned have the same eng for the 4x2 and 4x4. The Hilux and the Dmax are the only exception as their 4x4 models have higher eng displacement while the rest have the same engine. These ute's are also part time 4WD's and unless you engage their 4WD mode, they are running 4x2 most of the time. The weight difference between a same model brand 4x2 vs 4x4 is not that significant. parang isang tao lang kung sakali. These utes are NOT fulltime all-wheel drive also (where fuel consumption is an issue). Between the Hilux and the Navarra, the Hilux probably has lesser creature comforts but far capable when it comes to loading capacity (HIlux with rear leafsprings vs the Navarra's rear coils) and real-world 4WD use. On paper, the Navarra wins. But longterm use will somehow see the Hilux dominate this segment because of enormous aftersales support and aftermarket upgrades

One of the things I also consider is the looks, how would it look 5-10 years from now. I think the Conquest looks classic and would still look good after 5 years.

Medyo matakaw on my perspective, although my only point of comparison is my manual trans Nissan Sylphy which runs at 11-12kpl at 15-17kph. If it's at 11.24kpl at 19kph, hmmm I think it sounds reasonable pala, so around 10-10.5kpl at 15-17kph.

Huh? You're right on this. Never really bothered double checking the curb weight. Checking the Navara 4x4 VL AT vs 4x2 EL Calibre AT, around 2 medium sized adult din ang difference pero I think that's minimal pa din.

As for aftermarket sales and support, dalawa yung Nissan dealership namin dito with different ownerships while Toyota as 4 Casas (2 Dealerships, 1 upcoming dealership, and 1 body and paint casa) pero iisa lang may-ari so I guess we won't benefit with the competition if i go with Toyota. Ang dami ding Navara dito sa amin compared to Hilux, so I would assume dadami na rin ang parts and services.
