Is Nissan a good car to buy? Why low resale value?

May negatives naman as posted earlier, mainly sensitive maf sensors for later models, possible power steering valve problems and siguro yung aav/throttle body medyo madali madumihan.

But not the "horror" issues na mga kwentong barbero at "sabi ni ganito, sabi ni ganyan" .

Just think of it as a japanese car brand, period.... pareparehas lang naman halos mga yan esp with lower end car line ups (2.0 and below)...

masyado lang overrated ang Toyota at Honda dito sa atin.

Yup... I've seen a lot of broken down, poor-condition Corollas, as well as numerous problems on Civics... but then again, I bought a Sunny that had a bum engine, too... they're all the same... great if you maintain them, and crap if you don't.

One thing I've thought of that reinforces these problems is that Nissans cost less, with more rebates to call buyers in. The cheaper the car, the bigger the probability that the owner is cheap, too, and won't maintain it. As Nissans cost very little secondhand, the condition of the car will deteriorate with the next owner, who doesn't really care to spend money on the car, thus, buys a really cheap one.

This effect can be seen on the Kia Pride... most people think they're junk, but Kia Prides with conscientious first owners are often in very good condition, require very little in terms of spares and maintenance, and are often a good, economical commuter. It's just that Kia Prides are so cheap, most owners just drive them roughshod, forget maintenance, and replace parts only when they are truly and fully broken.

drove a 89 sentra, 1st owned, shocks and suspension gave out after 7 years. And Lord knows that's a feat in itself considering how I drive but after replacing with original springs and kyb gas shocks it continues to run up until now... also had numerous problems with the AC compressor and clutch lining. But all in all a very nice front driver that can be easily be made to oversteer on tight corners (due to the heavy "butt"). But got tired of changing drum brake pads every 2-3 years (due to togue runs that requires the occasional "pull" on the handbrakes) so i went back to oldschool RWD

btw, the sentra is still with me, runs well, engine still revs up to 7000rpm and no plans of selling it. i'd definitely buy another one, bang for the buck!

Sold my nissan 4x2 power pickup after 7 years of intensive use in the farm. And never did it fail me. The engine is quiet like a car but very powerful. And it gave me 12.5 km per liter. But sadly, i had to sell it cheap, at only 240K. The isuzus with the same age were selling for 30-40% more. And even if the isuzu's were more expensive they were selling like hotcakes! It must be people's perception about Nissan. But ive tried their pickup and their good. But with a low resale value, i chose an isuzu this time. Sad but true. If only the resale value of a nissan pickup was a little higher, i would have again chosen it.

Im planning to a 1996 1.6 nissan sentra super touring for 168K, with all power amenities ( but of course) and cd player and 77 thou km on its odometer..any comments on nissan 96 super touring specs? does it drive good like a super saloon or better? whats the difference between a super saloon and a super touring well except for its sideskirts...and does it have suspension problems? Thanks.

Yes it's a good car to buy... U will see many pinoys are still buying brand new models like x-trail, patrols for the politicians, cefiros for buss. tycons, and sentras for every1 right... and I don't know where do u get the idea that people tend to prefer hondas, toyotas and mitsus.... ahh, I will tell u a little story my uncle who is in the car buy and sell buss. told me.. it was this old pinoy tag line that made it all happen, "nissan ba kamo, ay mahal piyesa nyan, di gaya sa toyota, kahit ata sa sari sari store makakabili ka mura pa!" and so then on it had affected it's resale value eversince.. but take note, in other countries it's definitely not like that. And by the way, we sold our glxi lancer 4 years ago and its' resale market value is at par if not even lower than a sentra, and I don't know any old pinoy tagline about mitsus. ;)

Nissan is a good brand... sentra 89 ang otto ko sa pinas, may 250k na ang tinatakbo. tulad din ng ibang kotse kailangan lang talga ng maintenance, kasi normal yun. here in dubai im using nissan tiida kasi mainit dito kaya nissan pa din ang pinili ko. i still have my sentra way back home and i dont intend to sell it... im also planning to buy another nissan this time medyo malaki na kasi my baby na ako, kung kaya ng budget ko, pathfinder ang kukinin ko. kapresyo ng H3 pero i still love nissan.

wag mong tignan ang resale value kasi numbers lang yun... for me i dont care kung mababa ang resale value kasi wala naman akong balak ibenta ung otto ko kasi ni minsan hindi nya ako tinirik. nissan is a victim of ad war nung time na malakas ang nissan lalo na sa sentra lineup nila way back in late 80's.

meron kmi nissan vanette and we had it since 1997 and we still have it now. After all those years, last 2 months ago ko lang pinaayos ang mga suspensions. sabi ng mechanic, ngayn lang magagalaw ang mga to since nung binili.
I'd say nissan parin ang may pinaka matibay na parts, kahit mahal, it will last very long..

we also had the vanette.. 93 ata or 94.. we just sold it this year for 120k.. mejo laging sira ang aircon nung nagstart mga 2001.. ayan tuloy tuloy na tas lagi nag ooverheat... share ko lang..

ah ok ksi andito kmi sa baguio and we only the use the A/C when its raining and kung trip lang.. so far, i ddnt encounter overheating sa vanette namin maybe because of the cool weather climate here.
our nissan vanette is still in top condition so far..

The older Vanettes really had a bad overheating problem, but a simple cure was to place a powerful auxiliary fan in the engine bay (my Aunt's driver did this for theirs, stopped overheating permanently). Our 98' Grand didn't have this problem anymore, as the last of the Vanettes already had a revised radiator and auxiliary fan.

BTW, the problem wasn't on Vanettes only. It affected other small-bodied engine-under-driver vans, too.
