meron kmi nissan vanette and we had it since 1997 and we still have it now. After all those years, last 2 months ago ko lang pinaayos ang mga suspensions. sabi ng mechanic, ngayn lang magagalaw ang mga to since nung binili.
I'd say nissan parin ang may pinaka matibay na parts, kahit mahal, it will last very long..

our nissan vanette is still in top condition so far..

The older Vanettes really had a bad overheating problem, but a simple cure was to place a powerful auxiliary fan in the engine bay (my Aunt's driver did this for theirs, stopped overheating permanently). Our 98' Grand didn't have this problem anymore, as the last of the Vanettes already had a revised radiator and auxiliary fan.

BTW, the problem wasn't on Vanettes only. It affected other small-bodied engine-under-driver vans, too.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

i must agree that it really depends on the owner. and i'm not referring to the nissans, but to all brands of car. sure, even bmw's had its share of 'lemon'. but back to the topic, nissan seems to have a low-resale value because of its styling (but that is just me, but look on the 350Z and Skyline) especially on the entry-level sedan (ahem, Sentra), because it beats having to go mainstream. saka isa pa, minsan kasi sa sobrang mura ng acquistion when brand new it temps taxi fleet owners to get one for their stables that is why.

    naisip ko lang...

I agree with this also. Nissans here look quite boring. Sentras were hardly eye-catchers. The ASEAN line-up is very much different from the US. Look at their models there. They look awesome, be it Sentra, Altima, whatever. The 350Z is indeed a handsome car as well. The Infiniti marque is also doing quite well stateside, offering more punch for less dollars compared to their direct German rivals. Even Lexus, the top Japanese luxury brand, is starting to get a run for its money.

People shouldn't be stereotypical with brands. Just because the absolute head of a country rides a particular car doesn't mean its the best already. And I'm 99.99% sure he's not the one driving it. Also take into account that carmakers are possibly bidding to be the Emperor's ride, and the best offer was perhaps Nissan.

for me, OK talaga ang Nissan and yes, the low resale will work to the 2ndhand car shopper's advantage.
Now that's quite a unique experience for you. In your case, the Sentra seems better than the Corolla, which is rare. Well, you're right, part of the car's worth depends on the previous owner's usage. Boy, was it such a feat to destruct a Corolla!

I had bought a NISSAN SENTRA DIESEL 90 MODEL from my sister-in-law in 1997, for around 125k. Its a good car with everything ok except for the alternator which I had the misfortune of replacing it with a taiwan made one which chonk out after 3 months. I decided to buy an original one for 20k which still works today. Nissan is a very reliable car if you know how to take care of it. I would suggest to buy original parts for the engine since its most important one. Nissan is a very prestigious car in Japan since the emperor rides a nissan. I am still using my Nissan Diesel now even more since the gasoline prices are so high and there is no diesel car today in the market. Just wondering why Nissan had to change there name form Datsun which was one of the best cars in the 70's to Nissan a very underrated car today. By the way my next target is to own a Nissan Cefiro a very nice luxury car...

something to do with merger, and marketing strategy too. to them, to go global, the name should be easily remembered that is why they adapted the "Nissan". good luck to your to be Cefiro...

Squala Thanks for the info. I had the same problem with the manifold being dirty. There was a point where i had to hold the gas pedal down to the floor while starting just to get the car started, because the manifold was so dirty. My idling problem is fine now.

as someone said earlier, yeah, the advertisement for nissans aren't much, especially for sentras. I think for a brand new sentra, its about 800T i think..more or less. And also like someone else said, the styling of the early 90s sentras don't even compare to Civics n Corollas n lancers. Plus those are the 3 contenders usually. Nissan... mazda.. n others aren't in the spotlight as much. N aftermarket parts (from where I live) are hard to find for older Sentras.. n even replacement parts. I've looked all over Imus n Bacoor, and can't even find another windshield wiper arm for the passenger side to fit a 92 Sentra. I got it with 1 wiper. At least with a Honda n Corolla, even if u go to a mall u can find Honda this, Corolla that... aftermarket tail lights... fitting rainguards, etc. Plus, Nissan's aren't big contenders in the used car market.. so I guess the value takes the punishment. At least now, Nissan is starting to come back into the scene with their Nissan trucks (as advertised in Bahay Ni Kuya) n SUVs..n their Sentras n Cefiros seem to be in the Luxury dept. when it comes to looks.

I used to own a 1987 Nissan box type, 1.3L, with original hubcaps, bought it 2nd hand, so far the problems were, suspension bushings at the rear and rust, the parts were ok to source, my kumare owns Banawe Auto Supply which carries Nissan parts so no problem, changed the clutch for the 1st time at 126,000.00km sabay timing belt. Sold it due to rust problems after 2nd repaint in 1997

Is Nissan a good car to buy? Why low resale value?
