So far wala pa ako major headache. nag pa-repair ng aircon, kasi bigla nawala lamig. Sayang hindi ko pa nababasa noon si Mang mario), hanggang ngayon lamig pa rin. I drove nissan sentra 97 matic, and still serves me well ( 8 years). Medyo lakas lang sa gaso. buti na lang lapit lang office ko sa bahay. so yung full tank ko inaabot ng 2 weeks.

Me kilala ako puro nissan auto. hindi si lakay.

The only thing really going for it now against the newer competitors is that they are giving quite attractive financing/pricing schemes. I think they're planning a replacement by next year.

We've had several Nissans in the past 12 years: two B13 and two B14 Sentras, N16 Exalta, Frontier, Vanette, Cefiro Elite), and right now we just have the Frontier left (just sold our JDM version B14 Limited a month ago and closed a deal with the buyer of our N16 last Sunday). My comment is that they're very reliable cars but the ones that came out after 2001 (the ones built with the Yulon Taiwan parts/components) have a decrease in the quality of some parts like the doorlocks, antenna, etc.... but the engine, cost of ownership (on the Sentra and Frontier) and overall car is still quite okay. OEM parts have a slight premium over Toyotas but i noticed that they last pretty long also so it's worth it.

The problem with the newer Grandeurs and even the 99-01' Exaltas are the Taiwan-made parts... mostly electrical and electronic, but the engines are still good, so they're worth the money (secondhand at least).

The newer Exalta 1.6s are very nicely appointed, but the bigger and heavier bodies mean they're slightly slower than the old models (but speed was never the point). The 1.3 GX gives you a lot of car and space for the money, but old Sentra owners complain that the 1.3 really can't take the weight of the car that well. A shame, since the old 1.3 Sentra FEs felt very athletic despite lacking some top-end punch, and could hit 190 km/h. A GX 1.3 MT would be okay, the 1.3 AT would just be a waste of gas, the rest of the Exaltas, okay, but you're paying new money for what is, underneath, a very very old car.

The Ghosn revolution has not hit the Philippines yet. Then only Ghosn model we get is the X-Trail.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

The most obvious sign is the air box. The DNE engines have their airbox on top (mukhang carb air filter) while the DE engines have their airbox after the tube, behind the battery.

The DNE engine is supposedly tuned to take lower fuel quality i think. It has around 5hp less on paper then the DE (105hp vs. 110hp).

Why some people complain the GA16 is a bit weak (esp on the heavier B14 body): when dynoed the GA16DE is found to be quite poor on the wheel HP ratings but when the basic bolt-on mods are added, it is very responsive. To share a bit, some guys get around 80hp at the wheels more or less when they were dynoed with the stock set-up. They added a free-flow filter and headers, then did some fine tuning and it would give a very healthy 100hp at the wheels (this was with the B13 of my friend). SCC also did a project GA16 beofre with some bolt ons (JWT ECU, JWT cams, intake and exhaust) and it gave the engine the around the same wheel HP as a Honda B16, with more torque. What was found is the stock parts (intake and exhaust amongst some) are quite restrictive but when changed, you have avery good engine to work with.

Yup, Nissans have some of the smallest stock tubing.

100whp is pretty good for a Stage I modified Sentra. I would've thought it would be around 96. I know that SCC car, dating ka-internet board ko si Mike Kojima... what f*cking genius of a nerd! Also, a pretty nice guy.

The last of the GA16DEs, on the 99-01 Sentra Exaltas, had VTC (variable timing cam) heads. They give a smoother powerband (though not much more power).

Yup, very informative guy to talk to... i learned a lot from his articles on SCC (nerdy car guy readings ). Sunny/Tevs on Nissanbayan is a SERCA guy and has a lot to say about their "geekouts" over there. BTW, he (Tevs) already distributes www.Mossyperformance.com and Jim Wolf Technology (JWT) stuff here via his Baguio shop.

The QG16 engine on the N16 Grandeur has a slight quirk though; the MAF readings easily gets affected by dirt so it has to be cleaned with contact cleaner every 10,000kms or so; or the car's performance and mileage decreases. Took me a while to find that out on ours before (pretty easy job to do though).

    B13 Sentra (1991-1995) - GA16DE
    B14 Sentra (1995-1999) - GA16DNE
    B14 Sentra Exalta 1.6 SLA/STA (2000-2001) - GA16DE
N16 Sentra Exalta GS, LS, Grandeur (2001-present) - QG16DE/QG15DE (the current N16 Sentra is actually a Nissan Pulsar BTW).

Niky, even if there's JWT stuff available, i don't think they carry anything for my Nissan (Frontier)

The MAF is usually on the tube connected to the air filter box... it's a small square box on the tube connected to a wire.

Jim Wolf Technology specializes in Nissan applications. They've got ECU modifications, camshafts and turbo kits for both the ever popular SR20DE (found locally only in the Altima and the Serena, but can be transplanted into the Sentra) and the GA16DE (Sentra engine), so far as I know, JWT and Hotshot are probably the only well known tuning companies giving love to the Sentra.

The Mass Air Flow sensor takes the reading of the air volume entering the engine for the ECU. It's located right after the air intake. Be wary though; when you clean it with contact cleaner, do not touch it as it is a sensitive part.

Is Nissan a good car to buy? Why low resale value?
