If i were living in a 1st world country, e.g, say, US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, except Germany as an example, i will be forced to own a gasoline/ petrol-fed car. Diesel fuel cost a bit more per unit of measurement than gasoline, apart from higher road tax imposed by these government for them. Plus some countries, like in the US, no matter how fuel efficient and low in carbon foot print they produce per km, in relation to gasoline ones, the US requires diesel particulate filters in them that aggravates the power output of the diesel, hence it ends up also consuming more fuel than when it's not mated with it....
They the diesels are maintained every 10,000 km in these countries, whilst the gasoline-fed are recommended most of the time every 15,000 km, but that is if you frequently use the gasoline fed car frequently, else, it is safer to have it maintained every 10,000 km only....
If i live in lesser countries - the 3rd world or developing, i'd rather drive diesel fed cars. They are cheaper in terms of running cost when combining their fuel efficiency per kilometre and cost of diesel. i use fully synthetic oil and i change it every 8,500 km to account for standby or idle time in traffic....
....But that's just me.
