Despite the Elantra having a 6-speed AT, bakit parang hindi pa rin sya ganon katipid even on highway driving?

Sayang talaga yung mga 2.0 na lancer matipid naman, marketing move lang talaga kaya naglabas ng 1.6, most pinoys think 2 liter cars are thirsty...pero honestly sa segment na to basic no frills talaga gusto ng mga tao hence the toyota...
Even if the old 2.0 + CVT is frugal for its displacement and power, it's still thirstier than the new 1.6 on an objective level. For the majority of people anyway, the extra 40 horsepower doesn't matter much, especially when the car will be subjected to mostly urban use.
For those willing to trade a few km/L for performance, there's the Elantra 1.8 GLS and the bare Civic 1.8S, both under 1M. I think a zippy 1.8 is a good compromise since it's almost as fast as the 2-liter bunch (usually with less low-end grunt though) yet is just as fuel efficient as the 1.6 liter engines a decade ago.
