Civic 1.8V or S. (basta yung may airbag). hehe
The best would be Civic FD diesel (like the one being sold in Europe).
As for me, I'd get the Hyunda i30 CRDi (diesel) instead. VG-Turbocharged 138hp torque monster :naughty2:

I'm (window)shopping for a new car myself and I found myself in QAve last sunday looking at Honda, Mazda and Toyota. Sad to say that the cars at Toyota were all locked and was not able to get a good feel on the new Corola and Vios.
Looking at the Civic 1.8V A/T vs Mazda 3 masasabi kong pogi ng mazda 3 sa labas, but the civic has a better advantage on the interior. This will be subject to personal preference so to each his own siguro dito. The mazda has driver side airbag while the Civic didnt. But on terms of fuel consumption mazda claims a 8-10 km/l while the Civic claims a 10-12 km/l. Trunk space was bigger for mazda. The biggest catch with mazda is their whopping discount. They have a 65k discount plus the insurance, reg and tpl are also free. based sa computation ko nakuha from honda, it more or less amounted to a 100k discount...
overall, I am still more inclined to get the Civic because of the superior fuel efficiency and having owned a civic, the durability...
btw : i also saw the new miata... hamfogi...![]()
*Karag2, boss my advice to you, is to test drive both cars talaga. mahirap mag decide based on specs and based on hearsay. drive both cars and judge for yourself which one suits your personality best.
So now for your argument about gasoline. Ito scenario ko.
Assuming a Civic and Mazda3 travels 10kms. Then let's base it on the average 45 pesos per liter. Ang matitipid mo lang ay Php 7.50. That is seven pesos and fifty centavos. Nakatipid ka nga ng 7.50 pero tanong ko lang is how was the feeling getting there? how was the ride? did you arrive in style? Did heads turn to you?
Yun lang. Test drive mo lang ang dalawa and decide for yourself, again, as i have mentioned earlier, 'to each his own'.
Oh i forgot to mention, you may also consider kung para saan pala ang gamit mo ng car, and second, what type of driving do you usually do.
I have a second car (SUV) that eats gasoline like a monster. 4kms/liter. Pero the ride and functionality is top notch. Kaya when i drive it, i don't mind the gasoline at all. Iniisip ko na lang ang comfort and safety ng family ko plus the practicality to seat 10 and haul a jetski/speedboat at the back, and three mountain bikes at the top.

1ST PLACE
MAZDA3s GRAND TOURING
Still looks fresh, still dances like a sport sedan, still a steal, still the best.
2ND PLACE
HONDA CIVIC EX
Avant-garde design and small carbon footprint can't compensate for lack of excitement.
3RD PLACE
SUBARU IMPREZA 2.5i PREMIUM
Serene, all-weather champ hindered by weight and subpar tranny.
4TH PLACE
TOYOTA COROLLA XRS
Solid, quick, and capacious but lacks cohesive feel of others.

Kung kasama all new Altis among the choices yun ang pipiliin ko. Pero in this case Mazda 3 is my pick, gwapo talaga porma inside out. Yung Civic....hmmm.... Napapangitan lang talaga sa porma, I don't know whats wrong with the front end. And please don't get me started with the side mirrors which I think is the worst part of the Civic. The inside looks so out of this world, it looks as if you were inside the USS enterprise.
I've driven 3 different cars with differing levels of performance:
- A 1st-gen DSM (Mitsu Eclipse) turbo - a lightweight sports coupe and the quickest/best handler
- A Ford Contour SE/Mondeo - an excellent handling V6 compact sedan. Once thought of as a poor man's Bimmer.
- A 2006 Hyundai Sonata - big midsize sedan with average handling. It matches a factory stock DSM turbo for acceleration but much more smooth.
Size of the car and comfort level aside, I can find no real difference between the 3 when driving normally either on the highway or within city limits. Every street here is either straight or the speed limit is too slow. It's the same in Manila. You're either stuck in traffic or the road is too straight. Unless the driver decides to be reckless, there's no way people will see the handling as seen by Motor trend.
It's just like that incident of mine with a Ford Focus SVT (turbo'd by Saleen). That SVT is a great-handling car. It'd smoke me in a track really bad. But I chased him down on the highway at speeds well past 120 mph. Its driver never had a chance to use the superior handling of his car. I dogged him with the Sonata until he finally gave up and tried to pretend he didn't do anything wrong.

I just sold my Mazda3 1.6V and just waiting for my 1.8S Civic 2008. If you are for the lookshands down sa mazda3 but dressing a civic with Mugen body kits is a different story. Handling? Mazda3 is great! but i didnt test the civic so i cant compare the two but you will be safe in cornering with the mazda3.
Downside lang ng Mazda3 is the engine na mahina dadaanan kalang ng mga civic.....(from my experience) and the fuel consumption. And if you have a plan to sell your car in the future then walang pagtatalunan go for the civic-better resale.....Goodluck!
* randyrivera : yup... would test drive these cars maybe saturday... nung nagpunta kami sunday kaya walang test drive... hope to find time this saturday... everyday car ang balak ko and actually after some time (if budget provides) this will be handed down to commander (wife) so I am also considering on how she will react to the car...
* lugarai : bossing, what are your reasons for changing from a mazda to a civic... what fc are you getting for the 3 ??? and do you have some figures on the fc of the fd...
Its Civic all the way. Mazda looks guwapo but engine and fuel consumption are of poor rating. But the FD Civic has a very small trunk space compared to the past civics. Honda engines are very reliable always... Been a proud owner of 1991 Civic Hatchback, 1993 Civic ESi, 1996 Civic VTi and the 2008 1.8s A/t Civic. Let Civics be part of your life...
