Sabi ni Jeremy Clarkson when these two were compared head to head, the evo is faster, more refined etc etc. But he always finds himself wanting to drive the subaru, dont know why![]()
Although I'm not a rally driver and don't even compete in any kind of auto sport, I also prefer the STI. I have driven both and the subaru just feels more comfortable than the Evo. My 2 cents.![]()
in the Philippines?
A safer bet will be the impreza because Mitsubishi
does not have a warranty on evos sold here. (even those dealership-acquired)

I've just sold my EVO 7 2 months ago. I've had it for 3 yrs & till the day I sold it the power just always seem to amaze me.It felt like you were sucked in a vacuum then spitted out like a slingshot!!! Thats how it felt all the time once you spool the turbo.
But I really like the new subaru WRX sti in blue w/ gold rims. For me it looks better than the EVO 9. For the current price of 2.25M, i think its a bargain for a sports car. 911 territory. I sold mine coz I needed a daily driver. So im eyeing an outlander gls sport, crv or forester. The crv is underpowerd, the forester is old looking inside & out, the outlander looks interesting. Havent made my final decision....still reading reviews from the US & locally.![]()
If you are comparing it to the Subaru Impreza WRX, the Outback would be your next option. The Forester's ride is too soft, which might be fine for comfort but when you push it, it leans over too much. The Outback, even with an automatic and a non-turbo 3.0L engine, can still accelerate and handle well. Suspension is comfortable and yet capable of handling the rough stuff.
I dont like the outback. I like the looks of the forester w/ the turbo engine.![]()
Having had the chance to own both, I'd go for the Impreza if it's going to be a one car garage.
Quantitatively, the Evo wins. Power, handling, grip all feel better in the Evo than the Impreza... But the Impreza is really comfier on the road, has a better interior, has less squeaks and rattles and is more interesting to be in (boxer burble anyone?). At the end of the day, you choose the Impreza because it has 95, maybe 98% of the performance of the Evo, but with a lot more refinement. Think of it as an Evo that you can use everyday... without killing yourself.
Now if it's just a weekend car track weapon you're after, Evo all the way.
I prefer the WRX because it's much more drivable on a daily basis. But, the frameless front windows of the Subarus become a curse as the car gets older. I drove a number of older Subbies while visiting Japan and every single one of them had front windows that rattled like spare change in a piggy bank everytime the glass was rolled down.
