The SA at the dealership made the offer. I guess they have that promo for different models since last year. The discount is good for cash or bank PO.
The price-off is due to the coming of the facelifted model. Fortunately, there's not much of a difference, at least cosmetically. This means that the current Forester won't look outdated, and hence it's a really good buy with its 100k discount right now.

Yeah. Subaru facelifts are notable for not being notable. They are very subtle. Some interior trim pieces mostly.

In a heartbeat the FXT. But if it's a midlevel variant the CRV. Aside from the long wait for Suby parts, you also have to factor in the cost. When our older Forester busted it's headlight, the cost of replacing one is equivalent to almost 2 pairs on a Honda. PMS costs too are quite expensive(check the Subaru PMS thread, an example is P35k for a 40,000 PMS for an NA Forester). For Honda, you wouldn't believe that my current-gen CRV cost less than my PMS on my current-gen Altis. Damn Toyota Pasig!
I think the best crossover in the Market is the Rav4 which is competitively priced between the smaller crossover to bigger crossovers.
Forester gets the nod from me in build quality. Everything looks and feels smooth and fit well together. Handling is pretty good for a CUV. The view all around is excellent because of the large windows. The only complaint I have is with the CVT. The test drive unit 2.0i I drove had that rubberband effect at slow speeds. Bothered me so much I didn't look back.
CR-V is much more comfortable than the Forester. The engine needs a lot of revs though, specially the 2.0. Doesn't handle as well as the Forester but far more comfortable offroad. Legroom is a bit limited but better than the CX-5. FC is decent if you baby the throttle. I kind of miss our CR-V. Its a good all-rounder.
I like the RAV4 too. Priced competitively at 1.45M, but unfortunately its feature set is sorely lacking. No HID, no leather, no push-start, no LCD HU, no parking sensors.
The base model at 1.23M is better value for money though. Compact CUV for the price of a subcompact CUV. It's the cheapest 2.5 you can buy, and the 2.5 does have a lot of power. Thing is, it doesn't seem to enjoy being pushed to its limits. When I drove the CX5, it felt very willing and peppy. The RAV4 feels very bland, with an awful engine noise. Absolutely no drama in acceleration, which may be good or bad depending on your taste. Handling also isn't as good as the CX5 or Forester, but at par at least with the CRV.

There are ways sir to make the 2.0 engine more responsive. 1. Turn off the Eco button, 2. click on the button on the gear lever(I think this is OD, where it lets the engine rev higher), 3. Switch to a lower gear(1-2). Pretty sure you'll get the punch you need. My problem with the 2.0 is it takes forever to get past 120kph.
Again speed is not an issue for me. What with the traffic in MM and if I go somewhere else for vacation, and with the family, I seldom go above 100kph. Im not in such a hurry.
Heck, I am already happy with the jimny, how much more with a big brother. :D
