I've always liked the Mazda 3 2.0R. Among all compacts in its era (9th gen Altis, ES Civic, Cedia Lancer, etc), it's got the most timeless looks, has the most features, has the best handling, has a powerful engine, and has awful resale value.
Compared to my 10th gen Altis, it's much more fun to drive. If it wasn't so heavy and if it had a manual or a better AT, I'd even prefer it over my 11th gen Altis.
Actually, even today, I think the current Mazda 3 2.0R is the best compact in the segment. The Civic 1.5T is also nice but way too pricey. I'm actually considering selling my Altis a couple years down the road and getting a used Mazda 3 2.0R of the same age. With Mazda's awful resale value, I probably won't even have to shell out any money for it.
Objectively, the 1.5 is pretty okay - same good handling, pretty much has the basic features, and it's priced competitively. My biggest gripe is its digital tachometer that I hate with a passion, especially when compared to the great center-mounted needle tach of the 2.0. The 1.5 is also quite disappointing for me since such a lively car deserves an engine that doesn't have to be revved hard all the time just to get going.
Mazda has always crippled its midrange variants, like the 1.6V of the first gen. They make sure to put subtle differences that you can't easily upgrade. Unlike the Altis where the 1.6 already feels like a good car and the 2.0 is just a modded-out upgrade, the Mazda 3 2.0 feels like the variant that Mazda really had in mind, while the 1.5 is just an afterthought.

mali kasi strategy ng mitsu philippines, dapat they should have retained the name Pajero Sport dyan sa bago so that they can continue production of the old montero.
obvious naman talaga na nag-offer ng low end and Mitsu with the non-VGT monteros from an old 4d56 engine which allegedly started the SUA cases although i'm half sure if this is happening vs. driver error.
Mitsu Philippines should just revive the old Montero parang Lada Niva ng Russia, ini-improve ng Russia with all power options yet same car exterior. very popular utility vehicle for almost 50 years na
the old Montero can take that place, as L300 took the place for vans, and adventure for auvs.
ngaun, halos walang bumili ng bago nilang Montero. it's doesn't look like suv on the side and on the rear. it looks like a van, and in the rear it looks like something made by sangyong or peugeot.
so pano ngaun, they have the most expensive PPV that don't sell. sayang domination nila. the new Fortuner just screams SUV malaga. heck, the old montero looks SUV macho than this new model that they released. parang mababali kaha pag pinag-offroad mo sa tanay mountains.
subaru should adopt the strategy of the Korean. hire german designers.
wala na sense kasi ngaun mga pang-rally rally or racing ancestor. People want reliability.
in the philippines, reliability is the same as looks + affordable and availability of parts, something that Subaru is not.
i really don't find anything appealing sa existing subaru forester. mas maganda pa yun luma. worst, most of their other models are based on the subaru forester front. kaya hayun, hipon and model line-up nila, except for the XV of course.
sa mazda with Kodo design, kahit magkakamukha sila maganda naman, although umay din. maybe that's why mazda and subaru both japanese are being beaten by suzuki.
Some reading comprehension will do you well. In the first half of 2015, Mitsubishi sold 6,200 Monteros. In 2016, they sold 6,700. So Montero sales are actually higher despite the stiffer competition from the new Everest and Fortuner, and even amidst the stigma of the SUA issue.
Yes, you find the Montero butt-ugly. I do too. But some (apparently many) people don't. I know you're a troll so this is futile, but do realize that not everyone sees the world through the same lens as you.

dun sa tally sheet they sold 5K+ L300 as second placer sa Mirage. so san mo nakuha juts yun 6700 2016 sales ng montero. unless it's a combo of the old montero and the new montero.
I've analzyed the charts, the everest sold 6K+ as well as Mux, but this can all be attributed to all the newer models na. that means beaten na ang Mitsu montero dominance, that they have enjoyed since release in 2009.
kaya sabi ko sana balik na lang nila old Montero dito and offer it like 1M for the Manual and 1.1M for the AT then discount heavily.
the provinces are emerging markets. they will pounce on these offers coz the old Montero just looks so reliable and no non-sense vehicle. the new one, ewan ko, even the trailblazer looks better than that

i have a fast Santa Fe 2007. lately i been posting na hyundai quality does last when it ages. why did I arrive at this, coz some mechanics at banawe told me na kaya nagluluko and SF ko is because hindi daw nahahataw. pano ko mahahataw eh city slicker ako. fort, ortigas, makati sosyalahan and ikot ko everyday. average of 20km per day at 40-60kph.
tapos bile pa kayo subaru. I've checked the olx, yun used mustang 2011 selling at only less than 1M. no takers? it's high performance no doubt, but where do you use it in an average traffic of 20-40kph.
let's face it, all cars at these age can run fast and perform well. pero dapat and basis, eh can run fast and can run slow na reliable.

Yes the Montero has lost its dominance because it's no longer competing against the lackluster Alterra and decade-old Everest. The new generations from Isuzu and Ford are definitely miles better than their predecessors which is why their sales numbers are up, at the expense of the Montero which has drawn polarizing opinions compared to the model it replaced. That said, at the end of the day, more new Monteros have been sold compared to the same period last year.
Yes they could've kept the old Montero and taken on the market for ancient vehicles (currently lorded by the Crosswind). But remember, they were selling that at huge discounts. I'd rather maintain the same sales volume but at better margins than sell more with compressed margins.

Figures contain both old and new Forts/Monteros. The Montero was launched in late January, while the Fortuner was launched in Feb.
That said, the ratio of old-model Forts/Monteros is very small compared to the new models. As with any car launch, there's always an overlap between incoming and outgoing models. It's quite a stretch to say that the sales of the Montero are being bolstered by the few dozen (or hundred) units of the old model still being sold.

the fact that they have 6 digit discount already with this 6 month old Montero means that this is not hotcake anymore.
Mitsu had to do some magic again like what they did with the non-vgt previous montero to bolster sales.
i wonder if they offer at 1.2M madami na kaya bumili? but the fortuner just looks so nice with its classic safari look. di na yan makakalaban

Personally I think that no matter what features you put in the Montero, it just won't sell as well as the competition. They can add as much toys as they want, it still won't hide that hideous rear.
Surely the sales will increase if they drop prices further. The question is if the increase in sales will be enough to compensate for the lower unit margins.
Methinks that even if priced low, the Montero's rear will still turn away many buyers. Sayang because the front and interior both look really nice, and the engine/specs are actually good.
Nakakatawa lang na all new model kailangang discountan ng malaki para lang bumenta.
