OUT OF TOPIC na kayo masyado....ah...buti nalang hindi ako moderator...hehehe

    back to the topic:

I drive a Dmax - I vote for it in terms of fuel consumption efficiency, coz I don't know the fuel efficiency of a Hilux....get this...if you are runnind a dmax at top speed of 80-100kph and the rpm is around the 2k band...my fuel efficiency is 16km/Li. Not bad for a 3.0L engine.

If I drive at 140-160, I'll still get 10-11km/Li of diesel....still not bad kasi sa dati kong frontier 2.7E 9-10km/L na lang ako pag ganun ang speed ko.

PERO kung sa ingay ng makina....the Dmax will fail the test compared to a Hilux.

ur right, engine ng dmax maingay kc because its a timing gear, compared to D4D's Timing belt, saan ang mas durable in terms in reliability? i go 4 the timing gear, less maintenance, durable pa, i dont care the noise, ang noise ng dmax parang tolerable and muscle feeling... i drive my dads DMAX, ok nman ang interior, aka Colorado style, my point of view sa Hilux, bigger cya, cargo bay mas malaki, and powerful.. yun lang... pero for me, i go 4 the dmax, mas maganda lagyan ng bodykit hehe

point taken. pero its challenging really, having to park a hefty vehicle in the soonest possible time. also, i find it easier to park tail first than nose first.

back to topic: baka may 'silent shaft' ang CRDI nang starex?

dmax cympre.. uncle ko bumili ng hi lux but wen he took a ride on our dmax and drove it too, na inggit cya and 4x2 both pick up namin.. maganda raw ang ride compare sa hilux nya... i say GO FOR THE DMAX... hehehehe....

not all CRDi uses timing chain or belt, it depends on the manufacturer, hilux uses timing belt cghuro to cut down cost to produce the engine. alterra uses timing gear parin so is hyundai...

wel if hilux really uses timing belts then wud go for a Dmax, but wit a CRDI engine like they have in thailand. imagine how much damage it wud do to a CRDI engine if the timing belts broke. it already costs enough for a normal diesel engine when the timing belts break damaging the valves and all.

The Hilux have timing belts. It doesn't matter if you are CRDi, EFI, or even carb. As long as it is an interference type engine, when the belt breaks it will take a lot of parts with it. That is why there is a prescribed interval for replacing the timing belt. It's part of maintenance in the same way as changing the oil and oil filter is part of maintenance. And timing belts do operate with less noise. Timing belts are also easier and less expensive to replace. Timing chains and their gears also wear over time resulting in an engine that is not operating in peak condition. But as long as the engine is running, most of us won't bother to mess with it anymore.

As for the Starex, the engine is not particularly that quiet nor smooth. It's just average for me. AFAIK, only the gasoline engine Starex units have balance aka silent shafts. You will not mistake the Starex CRDi engine for a Sorento's engine anytime soon.

The DMax can hold its own against the Hilux. Given that it shares lots of common bits with the GM Colorado series and a certain vehicle called the Hummer H3.

But I'm still voting for the Hilux. I'd appreciate the larger bed and cabin, extra 30 horses and higher road clearance.

dmax parin... kahit 4x2 or 4x4... lalamang parin ang 4x4 dmax sa hilux dahil sa features nya and driveability and reliability... tested the 4x4 on rily off road.. ok talga.. no probs... kayang kaya... hindi nag hang ang gulong nya... and ganda traction....

    Otep,
Parang mas mataas yata (sa specs) ang ground clearance ng 4x4 DMAX vs. the 4x4 Hi-Lux. I might be wrong tho.

    Djerms [pogi],

Mas mataas nga ata under the lowest point where the measurement is taken (ilalim ng diff). Pero in other practical areas (side sill, approach, etc.), parang mas lamang HL.

Mga sir na pogi, I think the dmax would need a body lift to match the hilux height/side clearance...

sir otep, i always thought that the colorado pickup came from the isuzu Dmax, its actually cheaper in thailand than the Dmax, oh and i thought the CRDi starex engine is the same as the kia sorento, unless of course the sorento has the VGT turbo? am i wrong?

The Colorado, DMax, and all it's other incarnations were conceived at the same time. They did have different launch times.

Sorry about the Starex confusion, I drive a non-CRDi unit. However, having ridden in a CRDi unit, the Sorento still has an edge. Better insulation? Maybe.

Baka naman mabagal lang umahon? Did you try doing the climb in 'D' and just let the ECU decide which gear to use?

Just like the case of the MB100. Daming nagsasabing mahina sa akyatan. Pero we have one, and it will climb the steepest grades even when overloaded. Mabagal nga lang dahil low-geared talaga.

thanks sir otep.viyage, oh sori bout the dmax not making it up to tagaytay via talisay. i think u might hav a problem with the A/T transmission.dat would be the only problem i can see from such a new pick up. was it smoking like crazy? cause if it wasnt, then i would think its a A/T problem. we had a similar problem with my mums car back in the day,it couldnt make up our drive way, it did make it up in reverse, heheh...we later found out dat it had very low oil in the A/t... but dat was decades ago, there has to be a problem wit the A/T.
