November 26th, 2009 02:09 AM #343depends on what car he is buying. If SUV i suggest having an automatic. if car naman, go for the a/t with paddle shift if he will use it everyday.
on my experience, i have a car that has a racing clutch, hirap talaga idrive sa traffic. meron naman akong a/t car na malaki ang displacement which is 2.2 ok naman cya. parang m/t din ang acceleration.
one advantage ng manual is fuel consumption. pwede kasi ilagay sa neutral pag nakatakbo na.

If you stand by that argument, pwede din naman ilagay sa neutral ang A/T habang tumatakbo, right?
Anyway, I just want to point out that running in neutral is not good; A/T or M/T. Frankly, it's not safe. You can look it up to find out why.
Going back to topic, if you have a newer, fuel-injected car, keeping it in gear while coasting will shut off the injectors. This will save you gas while providing some engine braking, giving you more control of your speed without using the brakes.

based sa mga nabasa kong comments, gusto nila ang A/T for *comfort* and for the ease.
for me, IMHO, pwede mo maramdaman ang comfort sa M/T even if it is on traffic conditions sa manila. kani kaniyang preferences lang po tlga yan, meron kasing iba, na tulad ko, na hindi naman nahihirapan driving a manual even in traffic. kasi nga, i think the manual tranny is in my blood na e. parang "sisiw" na un manual. FOR ME lang po ha.
pero for someone na talagang looking for a tranny for the sake of their ease of driving, go for an A/T instead kasi baka magsisi kayo sa manual

i prefer fuel savings than comfort so i go with Manual Transmission. you will definitely get more fuel mileage than an Automatic.

November 28th, 2009 09:21 PM #349Actually wrt to fuel consumption, kung madalas ka mag highway, bumabawi na ang A/T cars due to longer gear ratios etc. (Noticed this on the Civic FD. Not sure to which other cars this applies to)

After having tested a both a Vios 1.3J (1.3L MT) and Vios 1.5G (1.5L AT).
I found loving the manual transmission better now, I never thought I'd love a Toyota manual. From the era of scratchy and rather notchy shifting AE101s ako lumaki kasi.
Pero yung manual tranny ng Vios is very slick. The matic is smooth shifting and nice company too, it's just that the stick is a better performer.
