It really depends on how you take car of your car for the automatic you should religously change the ATF which is not expensive to do so. We has a 95' Galant v6 where the transmission was overhauled thrice at 60k pesos for each overhaul it was because our driver didn't know how to operate an automatic transmission properly and we were froced to traverse the flooded part of balintawak going to Nlex back then for us not to cause traffic.

My 02 Fieldmaster's transmission never had any repairs as of date. Just the regular ATF dialysis/flushing *40,000km interval. I only spent 3-5k per dialysis/flushing if I remember correctly. Di naman sya ganun kamahalan since 5 years or more yung 40,000kms sa akin. Right now the Paj is still running *180,000kms. In my 94 civic M/T running *140,000kms, once ko pa lang pinalitan ang clutch and I think I spent around 5k. My dad has a 98 Hilux M/T running *220,000kms and he already replaced the clutch twice. I think gumastos sya ng around 5-7k dun sa last.

In my estimate, it's just an additional 10-20k pesos per 10-15 years. And this is by the way comparing the Paj (more expensive parts) with the hilux and civic (cheaper parts).

Manual Tranny if you are going for better fc and imho more fun to drive
Automatic tranny if you go for easy to drive lalo na pag long drives and minimal hand and feet coordination (kasi gas break gas break lang) but has lower fc compared to a manual
All said and done, it all comes down to personal preference.

    Why not both? automanual

Auto for city and manual for long drive. Sanayan lang yung paddle shifter pero nung nagamay na sarap gamitin but i needed a HUD next time para iwas silip sa dashboard.

    pede din ganto:

    Alas! A never-ending debate.

The line between M/T and A/T has blurred in the past decade. Let's just be clear that 'M/T' in this context means transmissions that are all-mechanical, gear-clashing gizmos that are still operated using a manual clutch.

Many A/Ts can mimmic certain functionalities of their M/T counterparts (ie. Manual or sequential gear selection) but you still can't call it an M/T. The main difference is that 'A/T', in this context, is any transmission with an automatic clutch.

That said, people who prefers to be more involved with their gear choices is not limited to choosing an M/T.

I believe this is false perception, maybe on old A/T transmission it would likely be true. But now a day, A/T surpasses M/T without breaking a sweat in terms of FC.
In terms ot accelleration, its a 50-50 game, as some dual clutch system give you less powerloss during accelleration and gear change.

Marami akong natutunan dito esp we are considering our first family car. I'm more inclined to consider the M/T since probably be useful for long drives though the A/T will be an ease esp for a new driver like me

but as you said, sanayan lang.

DCT or DSG shifts quicker than MT. Newer 8-speed and 9-speed AT trannies are way quicker than MT trannies.

Yup, we compared 5AT and 6MT and the MT was slower. Specially the long throw MTs. Some Toyota D4d MTs are even detuned for torque compared to their AT versions.

Pero pag highway, or crusing at night, driving in a sunny sunday maganda manual trans.

You need both hands and feet. Usually overspeeding disgrasya sa manual

My 2 vehicles both have AT trannies of different types. One is DCT and the other one is CVT. They are much better to drive in open roads. The CVT accelerates much faster, due to its power/torque advantage. The DCT shifts quicker and more responsive on upshifts/downshifts.

Gusto ko rin kumuha ng MT car next time, something much more powerful and quicker than my current rides.

Ano difference doon sa old cvt ng jazz or nissan cvt?

^^^ The newer CVT used on the new batch of Honda, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Toyota, and Subaru cars are much better than the older type of CVT as used in the older generations of the Jazz, City, and Lancer Cedia. Japanese cars either use CVT made by Jatco or Aisin so they share the same build so the difference is only with the tuning to match the engine of the vehicle.

The CVT on the new Civic Turbo is tuned differently than the CVT used on the less powerful Civic NA, City, or Jazz. The CVT on the Accord will be tuned differently also.

My Forester XT accelerates quickly with its CVT tranny but the sour note is that it does not give the sensation of going up thru the gears (despite seeing the dashboard displaying the gears moving up to 8th gear). The ECU matches automatically the right gear of the CVT to the revving of the engine. On my Fiesta Ecoboost, you can feel the DCT gears shifting up on hard acceleration and the rpm rises up when the DCT downshifts. DCT behaves more like a MT tranny.
