Yes its true that the TOTL BRV is loaded. But then again don't overlook what a base mid-size SUV can offer which the BRV cannot. Such things as higher wading depth, more solid/rigid body for safety, Road flexibility, cargo capacity, more powerful engine. This is the consideration for TOTL BRV buyers which in Indonesia was a reality. Like I said, only time will tell who will be the king of Gas MPV here in our shores. A Hype is a hype but sales will conclude.
I don't consider Modulo variants since I find them a rip-off with nothing but ricey cosmetic upgrades over the TOTL variant (in this case the 1.5V), but if that's what floats your boat, then go ahead since it's your money anyway.

I agree that there are inherent benefits of jumping from a subcompact MPV to a PPV. What I was alluding to was the consumer buying preferences of the broad buying public.

    Some observations:
    - Buyers of MPVs often choose the mid-level variant over the TOTL. This is true for the BRV 1.5S vs 1.5V, Avanza 1.3E vs 1.5G, Mobilio 1.5V vs 1.5RS, and so on.

    - Buyers of PPVs are primarily AT buyers.

Which is why I made the remark that to jump from an MPV to a PPV, you spend roughly 1.5x the price, which is enough to get another brand new minicar or entry level subcompact, and which is why I say that most MPV buyers are not the same market as PPV buyers because of the disparity in purchasing power.

There will be unique outliers, but that's the general market insight. I confirmed this when I had a chat with one of Honda's sales managers - their clientele who opt for the CRV (same price range as PPVs) are not the same people who look at the BRV.

IIRC, the cheapest Toyota with curtain airbags is the Altis/Yaris.
I wouldn't be surprised if their next wave of vehicles would have them as standard given the upcoming arrival of the Rush and the all-new Vios.

Back to reality..personally sa pagkakita ko sa dalawa, mas unique ang xpander, Rush parang chopsuey,
pinaghalo halong CR-V, Revo at Avanza. Trying hard SUV. Pero let the buyers judge them, these are all my
    personal opinion.

I think the xpander will outsell the rush.

Just a gut feel.

Gagaya tayo sa indonesia na panalo xpander, or pinoy way na toyota will win?
Although may all-new innova ako, id go for the underdog na xpander sa small mpv segment

The small mpv/suv is a very critical segment of the car industry in the future. Even major brands such as Volkswagen are dropping sedan development in favor of suvs, and the truth is not far here in the Philippines given how the Fortuner topped the best selling list last year.

Honestly, I was hoping for the Rush to place second or third, not because I believe the Xpander or BRV or Ertiga is better than the Rush, but because I want Toyota to improve the products they are offering. They see no competition and are raking billions to the tune of 13.4 billion pesos in 2017 (+11% from 2016) by offering slightly above average prices while having fewer features. Case in point, just compare closely priced variants of the Vios and City and you'll know what I am referring to. I thought the Mirage/G4 could atleast shake the subcompact segment a few years ago, but after 5 years the Vios is still the sales king by a large margin.

Unfortunately, I believe this will not be the case. Even I is now a believer of Toyota's reliability and ease of maintenance that If I am in the market for these small mpv/suv, the Rush will be one of the top picks even if I like the look of the Xpander more.

Pansin ko lang na ang matibay sa toyota ay yung mainstream toyota products like altis, camry, fortuner.. yung daihatsu products medyo hindi ganun katibay.. parang hindi sturdy yung built nya.. same with honda.. iba ang built quality nung mainstream products compared sa mobilio

This.

Exactly what I wanted to happen.
