Risk with turbo-powered vehicles? There are a bunch already in the local market, even long ago. Most new turbos are water-cooled already, even the Germans are using water-cooled turbos nowadays.

Let me count a few of the current crop of local vehicles and they don't even include those new CRDi-powered pickups, PPVs, and MPVs which got variable geometry turbos (VGT).

    BMW 3-series/5-series/7-series (various turbo options)
    Mini Cooper
    Audi A3/A4/A6/A7 (various turbo options)
Mercedes Benz A-class/C-Class/E-Class/S-Class (various turbo options)
Volvo (turbo options across its model line-up)
Porsche (turbo options across its model line-up)
    Chevrolet Trax 1.4L turbo
    Ford Fiesta 1.0L Ecoboost
    Ford Focus 1.5L Ecoboost
Ford Escape 1.6L and 2.0L Ecoboost
Ford Explorer 2.3L and 3.5L Ecoboost
    Ford Expedition 3.5L Ecoboost
    Ford Mustang 2.3L Ecoboost
    Honda Civic 1.5L turbo
    Hyundai Veloster 1.6L turbo
    Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0L turbo
Mazda CX9 2.5L turbo (upcoming model)
    Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X
    Mitsubishi Lancer Ralli-Art
    Subaru Levorg 1.6L turbo
    Subaru Forester XT 2.0L turbo
    Subaru WRX and WRX STi
VW Golf 1.4L and Golf GTi 2.0L turbo
    VW Jetta 1.4L turbo
    VW Bettle 1.4L turbo
    VW Passat 2.0L turbo

Go tell people who have them that all the cars above are RISKS in local roads as they are powered by turbo petrol engines.
From that list, then I would not advice on the new civic turbo. The others mukhang minority lang naman bumibili. No need to warn the buyers coz they buy base on prestige.

But the civic is masa car.

Yeterday was the worst traffic yet in the M.M. I could imagine a 5 year old escspe or civic in that traffic with a fully-stressed driver. Inviting leaks talaga

So for now, the Ford Escape 1.6 is the cheapest car that comes with 6 airbags ... previously it was the Subaru Impreza?

Really dont see a lot of escapes on the road. Was expecting it to sell more because of the turbo. I think it was heavily favored in the US.. maybe because of transmission and turbo issues plaguing their other cars are keeping people from buying

I've been looking around 2013 / 2014 / 2015 / 2016 / 2017 Ford Escape Forum and there are indeed issues on the 2013 1.6L ecoboost particularly on coolant lose.

But given that Ford sells on average 300K escapes per year in the US, those with major issues can be seen as a minority. Plus general feedback is the kinks have been ironed out on the 2014-present models.

I'm crossing my fingers on this. But I've had it for almost a week and its beyond expectations -- the ride, build quality, power, tech, and refinement is good value (at least for the money I paid).

On the issue of turbo on traffic, someone from the forum gave me this link Try this : Do turbocharged engines cause more problems? - The Globe and Mail

    Trolls : keep out!

    Sorry cathy.

As sa sa inyo naman yan if you really wanna try a water-cooled turbo petrol engine.
Para sa kin ok naman ang naturally aspirated for Manila city drive coz average of 30-60km speed

Pero para sakin danger talaga. I already had two turbo problems, both oil-cooled, nag leak sa cylinder, and i lost power and umusok ng husto at tumirik. Good thing is oil burns sa exhaust. Pero water leak, nakow tawag na kayo tow-truck. Water contamination sa engine is the worst nightmare of all

Minicarp magkaiba Naman Ang dinadaanan NG oil cooled Sa water cooled.. ️️️️Ang water cooled turbo charger-- Hangang labas Lang, hindi umaabot sa shafting... Kasing laki Lang Ng hose ️Ang water NA dumadaan sa area ng turbo.. And it is impossible ba Umabot sa shafting lalo sa loob ng engine.... Totally Naka seperate ️Yun.... Separated by 6Mm steel plate... ️️Ang pressure Lang nun is same Lang ng pressure ng radiator..

Ganun din naman oil. Sabi nila sealed pa nga malabo mangyari 10 years sgo, tapos hayun lahat mostly ng turbo problems nagsimula sa oil leak

Parang ang labo naman kasi ng technology ginawa nga nila 1.5L to 1.6L yan mgs Cuv vs. sa 2.0 or 2.2L. Pero nilagyan nman nila ng turbo

Tapos pag titignan mo city FC ganun pa din 5-7km / liter city even the likes old crv snd rsv4 engines

What's the point diba? For manila drive

If you're in USA, cge use turbo petrol engine.

Ginu-gudtime lang tayo ng mga manufacturers na yan sa turbo. Dagdag sirain or maintenance components pa din sa engine bsy

I have an old V6 ford in my ecpllorer and a 4M40 engine in our Pajero thought turbo-intercooled

Kitang-kita ko difference na malalakas ng engine vs sa small eninges eith turbo sa arangkada. If arsngkadahan ang pag-usapan

But these are all pointless in Manila traffic where we spent our cars 90% of the time.

I doubt naman if resdients from Csvite, Pampanga, Laguna, bstsngas with open roads will buy ford escapes, kasi practical sila dun woth workorses like PPV diesels and pickups.

What are the car models and make? It'd be good to know what they are for future reference.

Yep, it would be best to single out specific car models with a history of turbo failures rather than make a sweeping statement about turbocharged vehicles.

Niky already stated a few posts back that the Escape is a good car for what it is. The primary reason it didn't sell is that the model came out locally when most buyers are lining up for the new Everest. Also, it is hard-pressed to compete against the leaders of the CUV pack - Forester and CX5. Ford had to put a big discount on it to get the sales going to clear inventory as Ford may have plans to bring on the newer Escape with the 1.5L turbo engine, same engine as the new Focus. Honda does the same thing on slow-selling models to be replaced. Honda offers really big discounts (300k or more) on Accords and Pilots when a newer model comes along.
