i think the alto and getz/picanto are not in the same type of vehicles..

the alto is a kei car.. while the getz/picanto is a subcompact.. getz/picanto is in the same type of vehicle like that of a toyota vios..

even the daihatsu charade is not a kei car.. rather its the daihatsu mira (engine of which is used by norkis legacy/privacy), is the one that's a kei car..

kei cars are supposed to be small and cheap.. so its baseless to compare it with non kei cars..

I think the addition of power steering and windows is worth the extra 40k... but if you can get that discounted...
Paano ba makumbinsi ang dealers to give a discount?

I tried the steering of the standard Alto mukhang okay naman. When I told her that I will be looking at an Alto, she volunteered to accompany me. She never bothered to accompany me when I bought my STi and the Fortuner. She was also excited when I bought the Jumbo Starex. Iba talaga ang preferences ng mga babae. Siguro namiss na niya magdrive. Dati kasi noong Suzuki Fronte pa and after a while Kia Pride ang kotse ko, palagi niyang hiniram iyon pag naggrocery. I have a feeling, gagamitin niya itong Alto once in a while.

Pero ako, i won't settle for that.

    .

I also compared it side by side with a Getz and my impression is the build quality of the Getz is better. Mapapansin mo talaga sa transmission. Parang short throw at saka swabe ang getz. Aside from the fact that it is bigger. But I resisted the temptation. Wala pang discount ang alto and aside from the matting, there are no freebies. but it is still 100K cheaper than the Getz. It seems that most people who buy the Alto are really very price sensitive. Ayaw magbigay ng 40K more for the deluxe.

i think something is fishy is going in sales department.. i have a feeling that they are hoarding the stocks again because in a couple of months they will be selling this at a ridiculous price as that of a picanto or getz..

    oh well..only in the philippines..

IMHO, Japanese engine, with a Japanese heritage, the only thing is it's made in India?

Most Korean engines are based on Japanese engines... ika-nga... Japanese heritage... but they're made in Korea... and so?

You've already been warned... flame-baiting and off-topic ka nanaman. You might find yourself banned from yet another motoring site...

Haha... pati naman friend ko na naka-Fronte dati nai-intriga sa Alto... brings back lots of memories daw...

Well, if she finds the steering okay, then I guess the base model is okay. I still feel that the price difference is justified by the extra stuff you get. Save up nalang ulit for the mags and tires, or get those from a suking shop via post-dated checks.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

with a cheap car like alto, of course you won't expect much in craftsmanship and driving experience..

people who buy alto only go for a basic car that goes from point a to point b..

look at how top gear weighted their criteria

    Build quality (22%)
    Craftsmanship (22%)
    Driving experience (19%)
    Ownership costs (17%)
    Service received (20%)

    --

they give high weight to BUILD QUALITY AND CRAFTSMANSHIP.. alto buyers care less about build quality and craftsmanship.. what alto buyers want is ownership cost.. which is the lowest weight..

so this topgear survey does not cater to the needs of alto buyers..

Cars are like pickpockets: take your eye off them for ten seconds and they mysteriously empty your wallet.

Is your runaround is a light-fingered crook, fleecing you every time you pass a petrol station or reach routine service time, or as cheap to keep as a lightweight Lambrini-swilling scally? The results are, well, eclectic.

Our survey showed the Fiat Panda as the car with the best running costs. A welcome boon to Fiat - a manufacturer too often found skulking around the bottom of customer satisfaction charts - owners of the Panda loved its economy, low insurance and cheap service costs.

Predictably, many of the cars with the best running costs are on the small side. The Suzuki Alto (8th), Honda Jazz (9th) and Toyota Yaris (10th) demonstrate there's nowt cheaper than a Japanese city car, but fifth place for the all-conquering Honda S2000 proves that daft performance can come at a sensible price.

Indeed, with the Toyota MR2, Vauxhall VX220 and Mazda MX5 in the top twenty, you might be able to justify buying yourself something sporty on financial as well as emotional grounds

I think thats it. It brings up old memories. I have been asking myself, what I really want from the alto , and maybe its the memories. Our family was poor, never had a car from the time I was born until I graduated from college. When I graduated and work for a multinational semicon company, I was sent abroad. I had allowances that I had to liquidate. What I did was tipid tipid para maka downpayment ako sa first car ko. I did not liquidate the balance of my cash advances. Instead the company deducted my whole pay for 1 year. Wala as in zero ang sweldo ko for 1 year. Kaya humihiram lang ako ng allowance from my brother. I had a car but I can't afford to drive it. Wala akong pang gas. 3 months before I bought the fronte, I was so excited that I can't sleep every night, thinking that I have achieve a childhood dream. The experience was fantastic. When I resigned 4 years later to put up a business, The fronte became my car, and delivery vehicle. Those were the days.
I have actually 6 cars in the house. 3 of them I bought this year. I bought 2 units actually from Lui, a tsikot member. the 3 brand new units cost more than 1M each. The other 3 cars are less than 3 years old. I really have no reason to buy an alto, until my wife ask me to look for a cheap car because she wanted to promote her staff. Nagkarason ako bumili ng maliit na sasakyan and it is really starting to bring a lot of memories for me. I think that is the reason why I finally decided to buy an Alto. May pinagsamahan kami. And I wanted the experience the way it was when I had my first car, the Suzuki Fronte. I will post the picture of the Alto when Lui delivers it to me.

i dont get it. di ba when you say nananaga it means overpricing? pano magagawa ng agent yun e may SRP? puro nga discounts binibigay nila para makahabol sa quota e.

*sigh* there's really nothing like your first car... ibang klase talaga ang feeling.

Guess that's why I like the Lynx... halatang ma-luma ang itsura niya compared to other cars of the time, but it brought back memories of what I'd loved about our old compacts.

:hihihi: So, what did you get? Base model or Deluxe? Pimp na yun! Seat covers, mags... hehehe...

Of course, two "Cheapest Car to Run" awards for the Kia Picanto in Europe within the past two years from separate voting bodies don't count? ;)

Also, note, the Kia Picanto and Hyundai Getz rate at just about as many stars as the Alto in terms of "running costs"... Strange that the article never mentions the last two in the top ten... hmmm...

yes... they never mention about korean cars in their surveys.. good thing you notice that.. yet they mention about french cars.. i don't know.. but maybe because korean cars for them don't exist.. its just there.. but they don't exist..

I ordered the base model. Another reason why I ordered the base model is because I want to paint the bumpers silver metallic gray for a duotone look. I also ask Lui to help me look for the mags, Install auto door locks with alarm, order customize body kits and have it 3M tinted. I'd like to see an alto with spoilers . I will post the pictures once the unit has been delivered and the conversions have been done.

now that's unusual..the alto hardly goes fast to ever need a spoiler.. i guess the alto is best kept to its original form, the lighter it is the better.. to exploit the high power to weight ratio of the alto..in fact they say the alto has got higher power to weight ratio than a vios..

im looking for an even more basic alto.. a barebone alto, no aircon, just 2 seaters..

I know mike. Except for probably really fast cars with more than 180 HP engine, you won't need a spoiler. Pero katuwaan lang. I just want to see
how it would look like if you dress it up. Lui said the firberglass spoilers won't add more than 3 kilos to the weight so I think okay lang.
I also think what they have right now is already barebone. If you remove the aircon, Mga chicks di na sasakay sa oto mo dahil sobrang init sa Manila. BTW my 84 fronte did not have an aircon. It was an option then and I can't afford it and besides during those days, people consider an aircon a luxury. Its either Manila is getting hotter or the Filipinos are getting richer. Nowadays its an ordinary thing. Dati, except for the Toyota Crown and other high end cars like a mercedes, no car is offered with an aircon. Now even the cheapest brand new car ( Alto?) comes standard with an aircon. Dati the only european brand (read expensive) with dealership in the Philippines is Mercedes, Ngayon sari saring mamahalin na kotse na ang available sa Philippines.
