    heh heh.
Yung kia carnival may pagkahawig sa kia sorento. Kaya yung iba nagkaroon ng impression na minivan suv daw yun dahil sa kakaibang image niya na may halo ng dalawang body styles. Ang kulang nalang awd.

Two key things to consider - choice and means. If you have the means, you have more choices.

For most people, the PPV is an affordable and frugal option for a utility vehicle. It may not offer the comfort and performance of the more refined CUVs, midsize or full-size SUVs but it gets the job done. Of course, marami iba dyan di talaga magpatalo - laitin mo na lahat, wag lang kotse nila.

On my end, my preference is for a CUV. My XT drives very well - quicker and faster than most cars on the road, tall enough but handles like a big sedan. It is comfortable enough for 5 people and the trunk offers enough space. It has good ground clearance (more than 8” like PPVs) and it has a very capable AWD system. I guess those capabilities are enough to call it sporty.

If I have 3M to spare for another SUV, then it is the Explorer for me. If it’s 5M, then an LC300. Sabi ni misis wala muna kotse unless company car. Hehehehe

Puwede, hehehe. Or maybe a used big sporty sedan (Legacy GT or Accord 3.5)?

Cold pa rin si misis sa idea ng big bike. She knows my propensity to go beyond the speed limits. A big bike at over 100kmh is a scarier thought than a car.

Pwede ba gamitin sa baha o sa off-roading ang xt? Iniisip din kasi ng ibang buyers when they consider suvs.

Not pure off-roading or water wading like those outdoor enthusiasts use. Ground clearance is at par with PPVs so no problem for unpaved roads. Subaru’s AWD is built more for rally, not dedicated off-roading. Below is a YT video of an SH and SJ Forester XT (stock) on off-road tracks:

Subaru Forester XT S-edition (BFG ko2) VS 2013 XT (stock X-Mode) off road hill climb water crossing - YouTube

No issues going thru mud or gravel though. One time, I crossed a muddy portion in Kennon Road where jeepneys and trucks didn’t cross. Put the car in X-mode and the vehicle managed to cross with no issues. In X-mode, the vehicle will control power delivery per wheel to maximize AWD traction but it works only below 30kmh. In Baler, I brought the car in loose gravel near the beach (for a photo op) and the AWD system worked its magic.

I once had to cross some flooded road sections (half of tire diameter) and the car just went along fine. Kung lubog yung gulong, I wouldn’t dare. The car’s computer is situated near the top of the engine, sits higher than top-mount intercooler. Kung 6 inches of water lang yan, kahit sedan kaya yan.

Ah grabe pala. If only may diesel yan sa local version, mas magiging patok amongst frugal buyers.

Europe and Australia had a turbo Diesel engine option for the Forester/Outback (boxer diesel H4). However, Subaru decided to cut the diesel option for its new vehicles (2019 onwards). Subaru will be more going for hybrid technology from now on.

The 2.0L (EE20) turbo diesel was rated at 150hp/350Nm. Good enough for its size but not as potent as the FA20 2.0L turbo petrol (240hp/350Nm stock).

kulang din ng ground clearance. If its lifted na, Minivan Utility Vehicle (MUV) na ang carnival.

For those thinking that CUVs can’t do some light offroad, check out how Carwow is testing these European CUVs.

Most would not even dare do this with their beloved SUVs.

Well, the gas variant is cheaper and has a more potent engine. 4M for a vehicle with an engine for 2M vehicles is just a ripoff.
