My vote goes to honda civic... Looking at it from outside mas mukhang balance ang design and more elegant, compared to altis parang hindi continous yung flow ng design ng exterior like yung fender parang outofplace lang...

Get a Hyundai Accent CRDi and use some cash for modifications of your liking.
Come on, it's a student and father-sponsored car. Might as well be in good graces of your pops by underspending on your initial budget. You can further impress him by making a deal that the "savings" will go to you for future "business purposes".
It's not like you'll be hauling people regularly anyway. I'm guessing most of the time it'll just be you and your plus one (if you have) so a subcompact still fits inside the scenario. By going for a diesel subcompact, you not only save on the upfront cost but also over the long-run.
Then again, the paragraphs above are ironic in my case since I've splurge my own cash on a midsize sedan so everything goes I guess. Between the two, the Altis will take my vote.

If you can wait til June, you can add the new Mazda 3 into the mix. It claims 17 km/l efficiency.
Between the 2, I would lean towards Altis.
