kung brandnew, wait for the new altis nalang. alam ko magkasunod sila ng vios ilalabas. june na yung vios. but if FC is really important to you, accent nalang. tsaka if space matters, masmalaki altis.

Old (but good condition) Benzes. I always remember the saying, "there's nothing more expensive than a cheap Benz". :D

Depends on your needs. The Accent will be thriftier and have more power due to it's 1.6L CRDi engine. If you drive solo always and want a good sleeper then this is a good choice, especially since it's cheaper than the Altis 1.6V.

For long term ownership and overall comfort, the Altis has a good edge. If you love cruising, doing a relaxed drive and carry passengers more often then this is more comfortable to have. In the end, it's also a bigger car with tried and tested quality, service is pretty straightforward and is proven to age well in the long run if you keep cars for many, many years (this last item is just a personal opinion).

It's a hard choice if you ask me. The reviews on the Accent power and efficiency, and perhaps the hatchback design for some, really makes you think well about it but it's still a class below the Lancer, Altis and Elantra if you look at the pricing which overlaps already. The size, comfort and relative safe ownership of the Altis still has a big value and heck, if Toyota could just figure a way to bring in the D4d powered Altis then that would seem to be a sweet deal.

Try to get a test drive of both vehicles if you may.

The Corolla Altis would be the better long term car. The Accent CRDi will be more expensive to maintain long term due to its diesel engine. What savings you might have on the cost of fuel would be offset to the higher maintenance cost of the turbo-diesel engine.

    Thanks for the inputs Guys!

thought of waiting for the new Altis sana but based on my budget i doubt i could affor the totl altis if ever, no kc malaki na discounts...

leaning towards the atlis based on comfort and peace of mind i guess... hopefully FC and cost isnt too bad specially that im coming from a vios that gets me an average of 12km/l...

I'd go for the Altis as well.

I've bought cars towards the end of the life cycle as well (my 2007 Altis J is one of them) as I could get good discounts and defects are practically nil already. The Altis V will get you 8-9km/L in the city.

*C4U, the new Altis is expected before the end of the year.

Quite an eye opener as I always thought the Accent CRDI would represent value for money due to the cheaper fuel and relatively better FC. I think I'll stick with my Altises then.

Maintenance yes, fully synthetic oil dapat kasi may turbocharger. And you don't want your turbocharger to choke on mineral oil kasi the turbo alone will costs 50k minimum.

2nd - Vibrations, vibrations, vibrations. Mas maraming rattles ang diesel kapag tumagal.

I think this has something more to do with the Accent being a Korean vs Toyota, hindi diesel vs. gasoline. Both cars have their merits, I own an Accent diesel & I like the looks of the Altis. Your choice of engine will depend a lot on how you plan to use it. If it is for short city stop & go, the Altis will be the logical choice. If you go long, continuous distances most of the time, then the Accent diesel it is for you. Diesels need a 20 sec warm up & a 1 min cool down, more oil & more frequent pms than the gasoline. Diesels will take you longer on a full tank than the gasoline & the engine of the accent is quiet for a diesel. And if you do have a diesel used in the city, you will have to take it out for a long 40 min drive every 2 weeks at least, just to keep the turbo healthy. John Cadogan has more info in YouTube.

Has anyone ever computed how long before the more "expensive" maintenance of a diesel offsets the fuel savings, and in this case, the lower sticker price compared to a gas-fed one?

I keep seeing in the forums posts about, "ah diesel mahal yan i maintain, mag-gas ka nalang", but I seem to have missed any concrete calculations to back this up.
