Finally bit the bullet and added lots of detailing stuff to my arsenal. This is now my set-up and how I plan to utilize them...
Microtex Wash and Wax - monthly or when my car is really dirty
Microtex Leather Cleaner/ Protectant/ Tire Black - monthly or more if needed
OCW - monthly or more if needed
ONR - weekly or more if needed
Mothers Showtime - weekly or more if needed
Prime Strong - 2 to 3x a year
Acrylic Jett Trigger - 2 to 3x a year
Mothers Clay Bar System - 2x a year
Meguiars Compound - to remove scratches
Mothers Billet Polish - for my stainless steel bumpers
For the applicators/ towels...
Microtex Elite
Viking Waffle Weave Towel
Lots of MF (Mothers, Optimum and Costco hehe)
MF Applicator Pads (both circular and rectangular)
California Duster
California Jelly Blade
All of these is for a Pajero FM which paint is still in good condition. I also just availed myself an engine/ exterior and interior detailing service a couple of months ago. For now, I dont intend to buy a motor polisher as well
You guys think I'm set? Or am I still missing critical pieces?
PS Didn't realize detailing is this addicting! But I'm enjoying it ;)
Thanks,
Dino
Not that I'm aware of - and they only seem to sell them direct in the US, they're not available at any of the big online detailing stores - which is the main reason why I haven't managed to buy any of their products yet. Seen very good reviews though, particularly over at Detailing World (they seem to have a larger retail presence in the UK, funnily enough).
Guys ano maganda pang alis ng scratch, naka car cover kasi ako but itong pusa lumundag sa hood may lightscratches niwax ko na pero ng ibang scratches lng kinaya...
Currently using Collinite 476s very good water repellent perfect for rainy season![]()
I would honestly see if you could return the TW Hard Shell and get what you originally wanted - it's really not a very good product, with poor durability, difficult application, and it has abrasives that will thin your clear coat over time. And no, you can't really use it anywhere else - those aforementioned abrasives will leave a white stain on any trim or hard plastic you try to apply it to.
Shake, shake, shake, then shake some more - it should recombine after a bit of effort. You could also try dropping a ball bearing into the bottle - it'll help mix it up faster :D I've had Poli-Seal, BFWD, WGDGPS, and Pinnacle Liquid Souveran all separate on me - I just leave them in front of my detailing supplies, and shake anytime I seem them start to separate :D
Just a caution on Prime Strong - it has some abrasives, so again, I wouldn't want to use it as often as you would Prime (plain). Twice a year would probably be fine, though. For the compound, Meguiar's Ultimate Compound is a great product - good cut, long working time, and it finishes really well. Depending on your paint, you might or might not need a finer polish afterwards (though Prime Strong might be enough for that role - again, depending on your paint).
If you're buying in the US, might I recommend MicroFiberTech for microfibers? They have a good selection, and they offer a lot of the same towels that the detailing sites sell, but at half the price. Also, again if you're purchasing in the US, I'd strongly consider getting Ultima Waterless Wash - more lubrication than your normal QD, leaves a nice slickness, and has a great dilution ratio (1:43).
I have the same problem with cats - I'm having to spray a citrus cleaner around the car every couple of days or so, which seems to work in keeping them away (apparently cats don't like the scent of oranges :D) For the scratches, depends on how deep they are - you could start with something like Meguiar's Ultimate Polish, then work your way up to Swirl-X, Scratch-X 2.0, and eventually Ultimate Compound. I'd probably go with Swirl-X, and just make the effort to hand-polish it out, with multiple applications if necessary, if I didn't have a polisher.
sir umi, what kind of citrus cleaner did you use?
I have problems on my engine bay a.k.a. the house of our neighbor's cat.
Everytime I wash my car I wipe down the engine bay to clean it...for the cat.![]()
Thanks again Mr. Umi. I was looking at MFTech but given I haven't seen one physically, are they that much better than the Microtex MFs here? As for the QD, will wait for promo offers from AG. I only got the Mothers QD to avail Amazon's free shipping...not to mention it only cost me like P350 bucks ;)
They have some really good towels - like the 460gsm Korean towel, the 600gsm towels, or the edgeless terrys - that don't have any Microtex equivalent. They're also cheaper, bought in bulk - their 360gsm towels, which are comparable to the Microtex Plush, are 22.90 for a pack of ten, which comes out to about 120 pesos per towel.
Sayang boss...i believe a couple or 3 months ago, nag bogo sale sa AG na puro MF towels. Sakto din i had a relative there na papauwi ng pinas so ordered lots of them plus yung 36x24 cobra gold plush. Lagi napapagkamalan na tuwalya dito sa bahay sobra laking basahan hehehe.
