you're right. test in a 1'x1' area using less to more aggressive products. Check the result with the untouched adjacent area 'til you find which product is effective. following up with a less aggressive product is a way to improve upon the previous.
this i say with hesitation cos ignorance is bliss, there are a lot of ways to check for blemishes, different types of light and different viewing angles. it's very subjective if we don't have the proper camera and pics.
