Motoring fans await RP car

DOMESTIC auto parts makers who are pushing for a renewed national vehicle program had delayed the unveiling of their prototype unit, which is keeping motoring enthusiasts guessing about what it looks like.
According to the Motor Vehicle Parts Manufacturers Association of the Philippines, the prototype--originally slated for introduction this month--was "already finished" but that it would be launched in early April.
Since MVPMAP broached the idea last year, vehicle patrons have been keeping tabs on the prototype project.
In one thread of conversation in the www.tsikot.com forum, members have expressed both excitement and cynicism about the campaign to convince the government to support a so-called Philippine Utility Vehicle through a package of incentives that would encourage companies to participate in the program.
The enthusiasts were initially intrigued, and with the suspense about the much-touted prototype, could not resist making their own ideas.
One member who goes by the name "drey" said those who were developing the PhUV should make the vehicle with "no power windows, no power door locks, no power antenna, no power tail gate, just power steering."
"No high-end safety features...but it should be equipped with three-point ELR seat belts, and crumple zones or a very rugged front nose/hood, Basta may Passive Safety lahat," drey said.
Also, "the PhUV should have quality and durability since it would be used for business on weekdays and for family use on weekends. The roof should be tough."
Further suggestions were for the PhUV to make single cabs to compete with L300 FB, L300 Pickups and Multicabs.
Another enthusiast, oldblue, had misgivings, saying the "rumored" PhUV was too good to be true.
A tsikot.com member called gearspeed suggested that the PhUV should be named "Electron," and that variants should be called Systeco, GTSi, GTS, GSi, Suprema and SS50.
MVPMAP director Ferdinand Raquel Santos said such discussions were a solid testament that many people were now clamoring for a locally-designed vehicle that could cater to the special needs of Filipinos.
"They want a vehicle that is worthy to sport a Pinoy badge and in the process help uplift the Philippine auto industry," Raquel Santos said. "Thanks to the Internet, we have successfully communicated this message across a broader spectrum of the population."
Another firm, Francisco Motors Corp. has expressed interest in reviving the national car program, and announced last month that is was developing its own prototype.
Enthusiasts have expressed impatience on catching a glimpse of the PhUV.
"Baka may spy photos na kayo diyan i-share nyo naman (If you have spy photos of the PhUV, please share,)" syuryuken said.
Oyil, another tsikot.com member, posted pictures of van-like vehicles which he said was his guess on what the PhUV would look like.
But syuryuken said locally made vehicles in Nueva Ecija and Pampanga looked better.
"Who lives near the FMC (Francisco Motors) plant? Baka nakaparada na yan dun sa malawak na damuhan sa likuran nung planta nila (Maybe it is already parked somewhere in their grassy lot at the back)," oyil said.
Some said the PhUV was not worth the time and money since the proponents said it would be made of completely knocked down kits from abroad, which was a step backward from what assemblers of mostly local parts were already doing. Others said they expected the prototype to have minimal safety feautes, if at all.
But a member named CVT defended the PhUV: "We have to start somewhere. I will support this!"
"If I have the money, kahit panget pa ito ay bibilihin ko pa rin (I'll still buy even if its ugly)," said kikkoman.
Still another member, Galactus, said he would not think about buying if the PhUV would look like the Ford Fiera.
"To buy it just simply because it's a Philippine-made car would be wrong," Galactus said. "There should be quality and value."
"We have to show that the Philippine automotive market is a buyer's market (and not the other way around)," Galactus added. "That is, we are discriminating consumers, too."

sikat sila Old Blue, Gearspeed, CVT, Oyil, Syuryuken, kikkoman, Galactus..![]()
oh yeah.. am now into understanding ergonomics. googling anthropometric data and freeware ergo analysis softwares for the seat designs
Hello tsikoteers.
MERON KASING NAGTATANONG why parang tumahimik daw itong PhUV thread after the PDI article came out. Baka natakot daw yung mga tsikoteers. Or maybe nadisband yung design group. NOT TRUE. We are healthy and working.
Actually, pinag-aaralan namin yung criteria and requirements for a true PhUV. Share na nga namin yung slides of specimens we've examined. Spyshots included

If you visit regularly, say, M-W-F, we will be posting new "studies" in this thread. Heheh!
Sit back and enjoy the views.

BTW, we are still looking for more members to join this thread's PhUV design group. Never mind if you are a nurse, OFW, cook, DH, or janitor. Basta walang espiya. Just PM any one of us: architect, dprox, or OyiL. Then maybe mag-EB tayo 2nd week April.
I was looking into a scenario for a cheap but reliable PhUV, here are my views:
1. Uses generic chasis similar to jeepneys
2. Ideally uses brandnew isuzu 2.8L engine - isuzu philippines is selling this package or 2.7L TD engine ng nissan common sa frontier.
4. The overall features is like a pick-up na nakadikit ang rear sa cab - parang yung dating nissan adsport ng pick-up. Yung cover sa likod can also be removed so pedeng gawin parang pickup.
5. The tires uses the cheapest in the market pero pang truck - HiMiller 8 plys na 15 or 16 inch metal rims pero for stability dapat 8 inch ang width.
6. Ang lapad niya ay parang NKR na truck - similar or even slightly wider than a starex van.
7. Doors ng rear passenger - only on one side - sa safe side lang and slide type pero hindi kamukha ng regular van, ang hinge nya ay kamukha ng design ng sa airplane. Then rear doors ay ambulance door type or yun kamukha ng isuzu hilander ng one side is bigger.
8. Spare tire is mounted on the rear door.
10. Ang location ng front and rear tires ay medyo malapit sa edge nila para maganda ang aproach and departure angle - good for steep angle climb like kung iaakyat sa gutter or something like that.
11. Engine modification - if possible ay gawin intercooled turbo...for power and quick acceleration. I expect that this unit can run 140 kph lang. That way big brakes without abs can be enough. The 2.8L isuzu turbo version is available...adding an intercooler would be easy. Sa 2.7L nissan turbo intercooled is also available coming mostly from terano. Sa 2.5L 4D56 is also available in turbo intercooled version. The good part about these engines are that they are not yet EFI types so any backyard shop can handle after sales service nila.
Sa marketing of this vehicle...I am looking into the market of the AUV like revo/adventure/crosswind and Jeepney. Price should be within the Jeepney price but amenities would like the AUV's around.
Rough na drawing skills ko so wala pa akong sketch... pero the design follows the dmax sa front - except the front facia/headlights and grill design iba and the rear design is much like the modelong chevy suburban. The driver and passenger door would have the design similar to new NKR trucks na parang extended pababa yung windows for better view sa road and side mirrors.
I wanted the lights cheap and easy to replace...so yung rectangular type or circular design ng headlights na very common to most autosupply store ang choice ko.
Magkano ba brand new na makina?
Yung mga ginagawang pamasada sa Nueva Ecija umaabot ng 450K complete accessories with aircon, sound setup, your choice of engine, mags.
