For the project study, I have used the codename Laguna. Laguna being where the foreign car companies are based. We strike at the heart.

For the PhUV - Pioneer. For the 3 wheeler - Pilot

Both terms connote being the first, the leader. Pilot is also appropriate for the three wheeler as it is a commuter car (sort of like a pilot in the cockpit.)

While Pioneer and Pilot are English, at least they are readily understood by the rest of the world. Laguna, on the other hand, reminds people of Laguna Seca, implying speed.

I dunno. Pilot would contradict to Honda's Pilot SUV. Pwede kaya Trio?... Pero masarap ang Pilot sa tenga... Hindi nakakasawa. hehehe...

I was also thinking the word I learned from our chat last night sir. Tsikot FRUITION. hehehe...

    Hi Drey,

You are right. I forgot about the Honda Pilot. Has Honda officially launched it locally? Last I heard they don't have plans but you can allegedly order it on special basis.

I actually saw one before along Shaw Boulevard. It was rather huge and from what I heard priced at a premiium.

Well, hopefully they stopped selling it so that we might be able to use the name.

IMO - the comment "to strike at the heart" of established companies is a bit overboard already. Let's not try to brag about something that is still on paper.

BTW, the name Laguna is taken already by Renault.

The Pilot is currently being sold by Honda as their top of the line vehicle here in the Philippines.

Even if they stopped selling it, they already have a trademark for it.

The name Pioneer is mostly associated with one of the biggest suppliers of in-car entertainment & household electronics. I would refrain from using that name simply because of that association.

pwede rin... but I dont think its close to the Jeepney since the name is derived from "jitney", or "jeep" and "knee", the latter referring to the jeepney's crowded face-to-face seating.

Besides, the Jeepney name is too old and it carried a lot of bad reputation since the pollution and traffic crisis came to exist.

Hindi dapat i-underestimate ang hatak ng pangalan ng isang produkto.
So, before we actually name a name for the PhUV,
why don't we agree on some criteria for choosing it?
    Like maybe:

    What it should be --
    1) It should trigger Filipino emotion, as something that Pinoys identify with -- especially the target C-D market -- without excluding analogous effects on non-Filipinos.
    2) It should be short - no more than three syllables.
    3) It should be catchy, and easy to remember.
    4) Preferebly a meaningful connection with Philippine history

What it should NOT be --

    1) It should not duplicate nor even sound like any existing brand name, whether automotive or other commodities.
    2) It should not have derogatory or ridiculous connotations.
    3) It should not have derogatory or ridiculous homonyms.
    4) It should not be confined to a specific period, but should endure for many years.

    etc.

    English or Filipino pwede.
    Play of words pwede.

    Game?

Why not Manila? It's the capital of the country where it is made and let's everyone know that it is Philippine made.

    *architect-
The name Laguna makes me think more of a lagoon rather than speed since that's what it translates to in spanish. Well it's taken anyways so it doesn't matter.

Another thing to remember when using foreign names like Laguna is what it translates to in the original language. Don't do what Chevy did when they sold the Nova in Mexico, Nova sounds like no va in spanish= "does not go" in english, it's a wonder why nobody bought the car in Mexico.

While laguna is indeed spanish for lagoon, in the automotive world, the term is more associated with the Laguna Seca raceway. That is most probably why as you mentioned, it is already taken.

But your point is well taken. The Chevy Nova is a classic marketing mistake and we would do well to learn the lesson.
