Was just at LTO mandaluyong this morning to register my car and I saw a leaflet that requires your car aircon to be using R134a. If your car uses R12 you have until 2005 to convert or else you won't be able to register your car. Hay buhay starting with EWD which is good for safety, next emission testing for clean environment and now aircon for the ozone.

Their objective is to be get rid of the ozone depleting freon by 2010.

I think cars starting at mid-90's have already R134a's as standard, I could be wrong though.

Don't know about early 90's (90-92) kung R134a na sila.

will the LTO personnel be able to distinguish by just occular inspection of the compressor?

The way I understood its another testing like emission testing. Panibagong gastos.

R134a is more expensive than R12 because of its environment friendly gases

I don't know how they will distinguish it. On most cars, only a yellow tag identifies R134a.

You will also need a stronger compressor since R134a is not as effecient as R12 in cooling.

Iba yung fittings for R134a. Way bigger than those used for Freon.
