guys, which aircon setting can help save fuel: low thermostat setting+high fan speed, or high thermostat setting+low fan speed?

i've found that mid-thermostat plus low fan speed cools the cabin faster under normal situations. thats probably because the air from the fan has more time to pass over the cooling fins of the evaporator, instead of just blasting high speed air.
here in the phils i run my a/c at mid-cool, fan setting 1 or 2. oks naman. paired with super black tints... ok na ok. the compressor cycles at half the number of times than say, at high cool.
gained fuel mileage is small, but over long distances it can pile up.
Don't overlook the fact that the A/C's job is to provide comfort to you AND your passengers. In other words, saving a few drops of fuel while the passengers at the back seat are sweating isn't right. :D There's no one fixed thermostat or fan setting that will be applicable to all situations. Adjust them accordingly so that all passengers are comfortable.
Keep in mind that whenever you or your passengers feel cold, you're using more gasoline than necessary. Adjust accordingly and for every situation.
In most cars, idle fuel consumption increases by about 50% whenever the A/C compressor is running. In my video below, with the A/C off the engine consumes about 0.88 liters per hour (LPH). When the A/C kicks in, the number jumps to 1.32 LPH.

mga sir tanong ko lang hindiba masagwa kung maglalagay ako ng grey curtain sa mga van ko sobra kasi talaga ang init ng panahon ngayon
Set the highest Blower setting at which you can enjoy listening to your favorite tunes. Then adjust the thermostat accordingly.
During noon, most of the time...I would adjust the thermostat at max cool.
Then during long drives or night driving, mid to low thermostat setting is fine.
As another poster has stated, the A/C is there for comfort...so the optimum settings will vary with the weather conditions and number of passengers.
3/4 thermostat + 1 fan setting pag ako lang mag-isa, 2 pag full loaded.
as for the curtains, medio TO yun sir. like others said, invest on good tints. nde naman kelangan sabay sabay. mabubuo mo ren un in time. Solarguard aken. sulit na sulit.![]()
"Re: Which A/C setting can help save fuel?"
-- that would be the "off" setting. joke :D
imho malaking tulong ung tint...but if you want a cheap and quick fix...
family use po ba ung van nyo sir? some FX's i've ridden go so far as to install insulation on the roof and windows. it won't look pretty but it will keep the heat down.

My take on this:
Higher fan setting puts a load on your electrical system.
Higher thermostat setting, compressor runs more.
So alin ang mas magaan, alternator o compressor? Hehe.
Cool it down fast and then put the settings in your preferred mode.....

hmmm wallpaper yng kulay itim na butas butas o kaya poster na lang kaya? hehehehe
To answer your question, for cars with thermostat controls only for cooling (w/o heater): The low thermostat+high fan speed setting (mid setting would usually be sufficient) would save fuel vs high thermostat+ low fan speed setting.
But for some cars with thermostat knobs, which controls both cooling and heating settings (which mixes cool and hot air at low thermostat settings), not sure but would expect no more fuel savings at low thermostat settings.
For a few minutes or hours lang of travel titipirin pa natin? My take on this are: kung nabilad? few minutes at no. 2 fan then return it to no. 1 na with thermostat set to desired coolness (1/2 to ¾ max) and kung galing sa garahe, night time or walang araw naman no. 1 fan lang.
Kasi the lower the fan speed the lesser it sucks air (dust and dirt) that passes thru our evaporator so tipid rin sa cleaning![]()
my maximum setting during summer is that the termostat is in 1/2, blowr is at 3, pag may sakay. pag ako lang mag-isa, lower is at #2 initially, tapos binababaan ko to #1.
pag cold months, my thermo is at 10 o'clock, fan is #1. minsan pag sobrang lamig, pinapatay ko na.
i find these settings most efficient for me. of course, depende yan sa condition ng aircon mo.
* mr. aga.... i dont know if u find what ur suggesting for ur van is cool...
but my perception is they ...L...A...M...E i think vehicles that has pics/posters on windows are... trucks... company vans... PUJ so i suggest no no for this...
about the black sticker with holes would be best low budget but is good...
curtains??? hhhmmm maybe if u drive a hiace van from subic or delica some actually have em' but if ur driving a decent van tint would be the best.... 3M -sakto lang sa budget- yung solar guard and v-guard are very expensive >.<
