Exactly, sometimes you wonder if they're in the right industry or profession.
Car buyers ain't dumb. They do enough research, especially buyers of bnew ones. They will spot a fair vs. an undervalued deal. Social media and the internet will also make sure the shortcomings will be exposed under the sun.

March 16th, 2021 01:41 AM #3All I can say to their whoever approved bringing in the Chinese made lineup:
Very brisk sales of the Golf GTI and GTS before proved that VW buyers have money and are willing to spend it, but they want a proper Euro car.
Why alienate your core Euro-loving audience and target the "budget meal" crowd who are willing to buy Chinese instead? Those guys will just buy Chery, Geely or Maxus instead of wasting money on the VW brand name. Tutal pare parehong Chinese made naman lahat.

Maybe it is a move to please the people at SAIC(Ayala's partner) ? They could have sourced the global market Golf/Jetta/Passat from FAW-VW and the Polo from SAIC-VW if they think the price increase will be more than their customers will be willing to pay that they must source vehicles from china.

March 16th, 2021 02:21 PM #6We were lucky that the dieselgate happened to VW, it paved the way for the Diesel models of the VW golf and Jetta to come to our shores at bargain prices.
I still think most local car manufacturers are a bit out of touch with their consumers. Diesel will still be king as long as the price of diesel is way below that of unleaded gas.
I don't think there is a local car model that is available in both diesel and gas engines wherein the gas engine would outsell the diesel model. Hyundai Accent? Just look at Toyota with the innova and fortuner, they dropped the gas engine already.
VW phil should look to bring in more of their diesel engined cars/suv here in the country. If diesel cars will start to phase out in Europe then it might be logical to bring them over here.

I am NOT against diesel, but I feel the fuel (despite all its benefits) is on its final stages
Here's the thing about diesel, the last big market for it is "almost" gone -> India
They have moved to BS-VI last year which reduced the available diesel cars available to their market.
Without India and Europe, development for new engines to meet BS-6 and Euro-6 is just not practical
Yes, this is the Philippines and we'll be stuck at Euro-4 for a very long time, but it will be difficult to see major improvements in local engines.
Back to the VW topic.
If VW releases a diesel car for our market, do you think it can outsell the Mirage (8.6K units in 2020)?
That same car can only be sold at South Korea and China (as they drive on the same side) and I don't think those guys will buy a diesel VW.
Our market is just too small for a non-Toyota
Indonesia made the Xpander and Rush, if their local market prefers a diesel variant, for sure we would have that option available locally.
Again from our neighbors (based on Toyota's sites)
Toyota PH no longer has a gas fed Innova
Toyota Thai offers the 2.0 Innova as an entry level variant
Toyota Malaysia doesn't even offer a diesel version
Toyota Indonesia has a gas version is all variants
A 70/30 water to coolant mix may improve cooling efficiency but that's at the cost of less...
Coolant...
