Wala ba talagang way to have prepaid voice+SMS+data plans while in Japan? Puro data-only plans ang available.
Apply for those roaming plans from Globe and Smart.

    honga!
we have been roaming for many years now. automatic activation whenever we go abroad.
but one should consider also, one's phone capabilities.
pag lower spec phone (meron pa ba nang ganito ngayon?), text lang ang available service when roaming. no talk.

    i haven't been to japan.
do they have special cellphone requirements there?

Nowadays, at least just capable of 3G roaming.

Please humor me.... How much is Globe's current roaming plan? What are their rates for voice, SMS, and data? The last time I used Globe's roaming plan was at least 10 years ago. They were expensive but it was the popular, if not, the only option back then.

In the last 8 or so years, I've tried "pick-up" SIM cards or hotspots at the airport. But during my recent trip to S.Korea and HK, I bought eSIMs via KKday. Very bang-for-buck, but no local number for call and text. Parang before, some SIM cards offer x-minutes of calls yata, but I don't see those being offered now.

Unsurprisingly, data performance and/or bandwidth can still be spotty in some densely-populated areas so Viber/Teams/Messenger calls can be hit or miss. Sometimes the good 'ol mobile call is more reliable when reaching family members.

I don’t have ideas of both Globe and Smart’s roaming plans. But in all my years of travel, at least since travel data sims became the norm, I have never needed to use mobile voice calls. Everybody has viber and messenger. In the event of an emergency and I will need to call a landline back home, my mobile phone’s roaming is always on,

No idea. I just turn mine on (am on post-paid Globe). Never bothered with those airport SIMs.

I thought it's easy to get a visa sa Japan and Filipinos are all in Japan kapag long weekend?
