Lake Tahoe on the Nevada side. I used to hang out there a lot when I was younger. It's also much closer to relatives and old friends. But, the wife isn't too fond of the area. So.... We're here in AZ.

Iceland or Greenland. I'm planning a trip there for next year. I want do it while I'm still young and my body can still take the toll of long haul travels.

Actually that's the advise I always give to kids. Go to the farthest place you can while still young para ma enjoy pa yun byahe. Don't wait until you're retired...mahirap na magbyahe.

Spend one year at Shemya Island? No thanks.

Hmm, i wonder how it would be if you were deployed there, and forgot to bring something. If there isn't a 7-11 there you're scr*wed :D

i hear Austria is nice. When the Amazing Race had a leg there, all the contestants(who were running like hell the whole time) really slowed down and enjoyed the scenery.

Anyone deploying there would know several months in advance. The chances of forgetting something essential is unlikely. When Shemya was still open, there were no mobile gadgets or laptops. Communications with loved ones back home were mostly by regular mail.

It's a shame. If I knew Shemya was going to close in 1995, I would have gone when I was offered the chance. But, many people who were sent (no choice) there had very negative views of their 1-year tours. So, I declined. Now, I wish I didn't. Oh well.

I don't mind visiting for a week. But, spending a whole year there? Very daunting.
