10 years ago when i was a “newb” in singapore my childhood friend who was already several years working there took me to geylang. Parang “hawker” lang ung mga babae na nakatambay. They peddle themselves to men walking on the street. A group of chinese ladies inadvertently dragged me inside their club. Parang pinas din may “aquarium”. Of course, i did not oblige. Being new and everything. Not sure if true, legal daw ang prostitution dito. But the checks for STD are strict.

Everywhere. East side (Geylang), Central (Orchard) pati Tanjong Pagar (near the container terminals)...

All nationalities combined vs Pinoys, mas madami pa din tayo. Same reason why medyo mahigpit sila sa entering ladies from Manila/Cebu.

Easiest way to find Pinoys on 30days pass... Sa loob mismo ng mga bar ng lucky plaza. (Golden mile naman yung Thai mall)

Its common for the SG Immigration to deport single ladies who are travelling alone at the Airport. Happened to a friend’s wife.

'Crazy Rich Asians' author wanted in Singapore for dodging military service | Reuters
    Aug. 22, 2018

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - The author of the book “Crazy Rich Asians”, which inspired the Hollywood hit film of the same title, is wanted in his home country of Singapore for defaulting on his military service, the defense ministry said on Wednesday.

Kevin Kwan, author of the 2013 book and an executive producer of the film, was notably absent from the Singapore premier of the romantic comedy on Tuesday.

The Ministry of Defence said Kwan had failed to register for National Service (NS) in 1990, despite notices and letters sent to his overseas address, and he had also stayed overseas without a valid exit permit.

“Mr Kwan is therefore wanted for defaulting on his NS obligations,” the ministry said in a statement.

He was liable to a fine of up to S$10,000 ($7,315) “and/or imprisonment of up to 3 years upon conviction”, the ministry said.

Kwan could not be reached for comment.

Singapore has a strict law on national service for all male citizens and enforces it with few exceptions. It makes it illegal for men to give up citizenship without having completed their military service, of about two years.

Kwan left Singapore at age 11, first moving to Texas with his family, and has lived in the United States since then, Singapore media said.

His 1994 application to renounce his Singapore citizenship and a subsequent appeal had been rejected, the ministry said.

    ...sounds... north korean...

is there something i/we am/are not aware of?
    heh heh.

As far as i know, they can renounce their Singapore Citizenship. But, the government will strongly discourage you. And its like touch move. Once you decide there is no turning back. Same applies to Permanent Residents

it think it's common sense that a govt or any govt should not allow its citizens to denounce citizenship just so they can avoid military service

actually a lot of Singaporeans have skipped the country just to evade the compulsory NS ... a lot of them are in Australia and if ever they like to have a little reunion with their SG kins kadalasan sa JB sila nagmeet kasi di na sil apwede tumapak ng SG soils else they will be arrested.

for PR namans, we were able to renounce our PR status before but i know if citizenship medyo mahirap gawin, i have a friend who did this later regretted it since all his savings in CPF was almost paid back in legal fees in renouncing his SG citizenship.

for Orchard Towers naman ..... matagal na yan, dyan maraming lahi ng prosti dyan , Russians, Europeans, almost all races dyan represented na eh and yes a lot of pinays also, this was around my stay there ....year 2000 ~upwards

Tanjong PAgar medyo mahal dyan but yeah Geylang is the cheapest since almost flat rate yan dyan hehehe sabi ng tropa ko dati hehehehe

what's the big thing against compulsory service?
if everyone does it, it's no big issue.

    hugh hefner.
    chuck norris.
    sean connery.
    mel brooks.
    sidney poitier.
    mel brooks.
    clint eastwood.
    tom selleck.
    ah-nuld schwarzennegger.
    steve mcqueen.
    obi-wan!
    and my favorite... elvis!

    they all served.

    most US presidents served.
jfk's exploit was my personal favorite.

    as an aside.
"the great escape" actor donald pleasance, was probably the only actor there, with genuine POW experience. he was a POW during WWII.

I had a conversation with a Korean guy once about National Service...

They have it in Korea, Singapore din...

Do yo uhave it in Philippines?

    My answer...

We had Citizen's Army Training (4th year HS)
    And 2 years of ROTC...

The only difference is that we have to pay for it

PSI hits unhealthy levels in Singapore for first time since 2016 as haze worsens | The Straits Times
by Clement Yong and Malavika Menon
    Sept. 14, 2019

SINGAPORE - Air quality took a sharp turn for the worse on Saturday (Sept 14), with the PSI reading crossing the unhealthy level for the first time in three years.

The 24-hour PSI readings ranged between 96 and 114 at 11pm, with the highest recorded reading in western Singapore.

A PSI reading of 101 to 200 is in the unhealthy range, for which the National Environment Agency (NEA) advises the public to cut down on outdoor activities.
