Some people driving diesels (trucks, or vans) start at 2nd gear. Meaning from 0kph, 2nd gear agad. Di ginagamit ang 1st gear. Usually mga drivers do this. Is it a good thing? Why?

Our drivers for our Isuzu Elf used to practice this often. Their reason? Mas smoother daw ang launch.

Currently I forbid them from doing so because I think it is quite obvious that it puts unnecessary strain on the transmission and engine.

    HTH.

Mostly diesel drivers do this coz their engines are torquey enough to launch it. Plus it "saves" them one gear to shift to and from. But yeah, it does put unnecessary strain on the tranny and engine. First gear's there for a reason.

sa mga trucks 1st gear is usually only used when loaded ang vehicle. it geared high enough so that it would not strain the clutch and the engine. pag walang load 2nd gear ok lang.

I prefer starting in 1st gear.

I would never recommend doing it since theres a reason why theres a first gear in the first place. But I tried it before and the launch was actually less smooth than starting from the first gear.

i think its because trucks have a very low first gear... and when the truck is not loaded 2nd is almost as good as first. when it comes to assembled trucks and jeeps for that matter.. most of the time the transmission and the differentials are not matched properly. so the gearing is therefore really low.. so thats why there are quite a few out there who use 2nd gear to start off.. but i still belive if your truck is geared properly then 1st gear is always the best way to go...

If you will notice this are the same drivers that revs their engine to get their
so called smooth launch. Uumpisahan nila sa 2nd then bomba sa silinyador kasi
    nagba vibrate.

    So kung saan sila masaya.

Always use 1st gear for me.

guilty me, I sometimes start in 2nd gear in our Pajero. I'm kind of feeling short of the short 1st gear has kasi eh. you barely push gas pedal and you already reached the 1st gear max speed. I feel a senseless discomfort of drag feeling. comparing it when our Pajero used to be an A/T. (m/t converted kasi eh)

if the car is on slippery ground like mud, snow or ice and you have a light load, it is better to start on 2nd gear to avoid wheel spin. if you spin your wheels and you don't have awd it will be harder to launch and you might get stuck with your wheels just spinning and your car not moving forward!

sorry don't have experience driving diesel trucks!

Starting from 2nd will result to longer acceleration (I don’t know kung faster he he) but the cons is the clutch wear. Normally passenger / delivery drivers do it dahil lesser shifting nga naman....

Always use 1st gear for me.

ako din, I told my parent's driver to always use the 1st gear... hahah.. naalala ko tuloy yung isang driver namin since he is driving an a/t, he depressed the OD button everytime the speed is below 80KM/H and press it ON again if he exceeds 80KM/H. yung daw ang turo ng dating amo nya..

Some cars with auto tranny starts in 2nd gear. Mercedes-Benz 6 cylinders auto tranny starts in 2nd gear. Depends on the torque and the design of the engine.
