Isa pang application ng O/D off is when your call is full. Mas malakas ang hatak kapag O/D off. Mas malakas din sa gas kapag parating naka O/D off.

Kung normal driving lang, O/D on.

overdrive in A/T is the equivalent to the 5th gear in M/T. It lets the engine rev at a lower rpm while traveling at higher speeds. Its meant to save gas on long distance driving on mostly level roads.

Para hindi ka maguluhan, just think of O/D as 4th gear. When you turn it off, hanggang 3rd gear ka lang.

    Just keep that in mind.

Most 5th gears on manual trannys are overdrives. Their ratio is less than 1.000 kasi. Any gear whose ratio is less than 1.000 is considered an overdrive gear.

down hill OD off ako para may engine break..

in driving, if the O/D is set to off while driving on both city and highway, will that trigger higher temp on the engine?

not in the engine... more of higher temperature in your tranny. If you drive long distances often, you might want to have a transmission cooler installed.

So dalawa pala ang overdrive gears nung MDX ko dati :?:

    MDX Gear Ratios:
    1st / 2.693
    2nd / 1.566
    3rd / 1.023
    4th / 0.729
    5th / 0.531

odell, OFF ang O/D pag gusto mong humatak ang A/T pero di tipid sa gas. Kung gusto mo ng more technical explanation, nasa first page

OTEP, kaya pala sa tech specs ng car ko nakalagay Manual with O/D then naghahanap ako ng O/D switch. yun pala, 5th gear yung O/D or may O/D ba?!

    Macky,
Yep, dalawa ang overdrive gears mo if that is the case. Pero pansin ko lang, most O/D off switches only cancel top gear. Ganun din ba sa MDX?

    kiper,
O/D on mo parin. Ako kahit city driving umaabot ng 5th gear. For special circumstances lang ang O/D off. Kaya nga may warning lamp to inform you that it is off.

Walang O/D switch sa MDX..... gated gear selection already has D5, D4, D3, 2, and 1..... Siguro kaya ganito ginawa ng Honda para makatipid sa gas mileage. Usually kasi ang complaints dito about midsuze/fullsize SUVs is matakaw sa gas. By having 2 ODs, makakamenos nga naman sila sa gas consumption.
