Mga bossing, 98 lancer A/T yung car ko.
It takes 3k rpm to shift from 1st gear to 2nd gear (without depressing on the accelerator). Is that normal? But when I step (again) on the accelerator during 2k rpm, it will shift from 1st to 2nd with a noticeable jerk.
Wala kase ako owner's manual. Ok naman ang atf level/color.

No, walang problema yang car mo. INVECS II yan di ba, so naka-OD OFF mode ka. OD stands for "OverDrive". ganyan ang INVECS II pag OD-OFF mode. pag OD-OFF hindi siya magshi-shift to overdrive and it will shift at a higher RPM. pag OD-ON naman magshi-shift siya sa overdrive pag nasa 70kph or above na takbo mo and it will also shift at a lower RPM. parang "sports mode" yan sa ibang cars, OD-OFF= sports mode, OD-ON = normal mode.
may button dyan sa may gear shift lever to switch from OD-OFF to OD-ON. saka may light dapat naka-indicate dyan sa intrument panel kung OD-OFF. pag OD-ON walang light.

i can tell na di po invecs yung transmission ko kase wala yung +/-, just the normal PRND32L, and wala rin akong overdrive button/indicator. pero yun nga, it seems like it's behaving like an invecs transmission
. i have no problems shifting to higher gears, mejo nagtataka lang sa 1st to 2nd gear shifting.

di kaya mabigat paa mo? if you press the gas pedal just pass a certain point when on 1st gear mitsu trannies are programmed to shift at a higher RPM than usual. try mo kaya apakan ang gas pedal ng konti lang and see if it still shifts at a higher RPM from 1st-2nd gears.

magaan lang po paa ko mag-drive. even from my previous car (94 corolla A/T), di ako lumalampas ng 2k rpm para tipid sa gas, which became a habit. kaya mejo weird lang sakin yung 1st to 2nd gear shifting nitong lancer since mataas nga. wala kase akong owner's manual kaya di ko maconfirm, which is why i'm looking for answers sa mga forums.
speaking of owner's manual, the previous owner is still searching for it, and wala naman akong makita sa internet. if you happen to know someone, kahit yung portion regarding shifting lang, that will do.thanks for providing your insights.

hindi ba torque converter ang gamit ng conventional A/T, instead of clutch?
-

The torque converter transfers the energy from the engine to the transmission. The A/T still contains clutch packs used in shifting.
If after checking you found out that the ATF is still ok please check the setting of the kick cable in your transmission and the TPS, these two can cause A/Ts to shift at a higher rpm range. Otherwise could be a blocked valve inside the transmission.

December 5th, 2011 12:37 PM #10Iba ung torque converter sa clutch plates. Pero pareho sila part ng transmission system. Either sa kanila ang magkaroon ng problem, hindi na aandar ng maayos ang system. Anyway, pinaka basic in transmission troubleshooting is try to change fluid and replace or clean filter first. Transmission fluid color should be red. If it is already color brown or dark color, it means it is already contaminated. Contamination are from wear and tear of transmission clutch plate that can affect the viscosity of the fluid that can result into sliding plates. Or minsan kasi hindi lang sapat ung looking for the color condition of the transmission fluid. You have to also check for the filter that may cause clogging resulting low pressure. Or baka talagang worn-out na ung 1st and 2nd gear clutch plate mo na kahit anong change fluid na gawin mo is wala na syang kinakapitan causing sliding plate.
Minsan kasi pag sobrang traffic, iba parin ang convenience na maibibigay ng isang railway system....
