sticky shift stick

when it rains it pours, I seem to be having a bad spell with my transmission lately, first the chirping sound (bearing) now a sticky shift stick.

here's the scenario.

after driving a few kilometers I noticed that when I shift from 3rd to 4th, ang ganit/kunat ng shift stick ko, 3rd to 4th lang.

I don't have crunching gear sounds and the clutch is not slipping, it's just the shift stick maganit going into 4th.

I haven't removed the center console and the shift boots to inspect. I'm suspecting the following: worn grommets, bad shift linkage, or a bad gear oil.

I included gear oil because only after the car has driven several kilometers (nakapag circulate na ng husto yung oil sa tranny) does this "maganit" thing comes out.

I want sana some other opinion on what could be other possible cause of this "sticky shift stick" before I start removing the center console, which is a PITA.

possible shift linkage defect... but still check it first by disconnecting it from the transmission and check if its freely moving.. if not, then need to replace...

Possible cause.....

The cluth need adjustment.
The cluth is worn.
There is an internal problem.
The shift linkage need to be adjust.

probably the linkage nga more than the gear oil lalo na if it's only in the gears you mentioned.

that means 1st and 2nd,3rd and reverse are ok,try mo ishift from neutral to 3rd and to 4th without depressing the clutch pedal,be sure that the engine is not running(engine off) and wait 1 to 5 seconds if you hear delayed clunk noise and compare it to 1st and 2nd and or 5th(if equipped) and reverse.
if you hear clunk noise in 3rd and 4th and not on the rest,then you might have a shift linkiage concern like maladjusted shift rod,worned shift tower or missing clips,dislocated or bent shift rod pins.if it shift smooth and no noise the it could be something else other than i mentioned above.

possible suspects ...

> old transmission oil (just replace this with a new one, usually you only need 2 liters of 90W or 140W tranny oil)
> if you have a hydraulic-type clutch, change the clutch fluid with a good DOT3 fluid
> if you have a cable-type clutch, have it inspected for breaks

sir worn release bearing will only create annoying sound like whinning sound when clutch pedal is deprressed and does not affect any shifting issue.

hydraulic type or cable type clutch,when this one breaks,3rd and 4th will not only affected but all gears.as well as old fluid.

update:

we've checked the linkage - okay naman, no play, adjustments okay

I checked the shift stick and the cable from the shift stick to the linkage everything is where it should be, no loose/worn grommet

hmmm.... hanap-hanap ulit, this could be an internal tranny problem na

the saga continues .....

update.....

I got a Royal Purple Max Gear 75/90 from speedyfix kahapon (thanks Migs) and it seems to solve the problem. Sticky shifting from 3rd to 4th is gone and smooth downshifting from 3rd to 2nd.

That Shell Spirax I put in my tranny as a temporary replacement for my Redline MT-90 just don't hack it.

The RP Max Gear is very good, as good as Redline MT-90 or probably better. We'll see if it will last as long as my Redline MT-90.
