especially sa incline parking... when you shift it to "P" do we still need to release the brake pedal first and let the car slide a little for the tranny to engage/lock or we can just pull up the hand brake and leave w/o allowing the tranny to lock first? what is the right way?

i was told when I took drivers ed is to just place tranny in park position and lift the parking brake lever then release your foot off the brake. Its not recommended to let the transmission hold the car on the hill, thats why the brake lever is there, the transmission lock is there for safety in case your hand brake gives way or not as strong. Another thing that was taught is to know where to turn your front wheels depending if downhill or uphill.

This is correct. This also makes sure that when you move the tranny from Park to Reverse or Drive Position, you will not encounter any difficulty in doing so, as it is not the one that prevented the car from rolling (but the handbrake)...

i agree with "park brakes" should hold the car in place, not "P" transmission lock.

i don't drive automatics, but i think the common sense is:

    a) step on the brake pedal
    b) switch the AT lever to P
    c) pull the handbrake
    d) remove your foot on the brake pedal
    e) turn of the engine.

    tama ba?

I have no idea about automatics, pero iyan ang sequence ko.
    Paalis from park, eto naman:
    1. start engine
    2. step on brake
    3. switch to D or R
    4. release hand brake
    5. slowly release brake

on more severe inclines its better to pull the handbrakes first before putting it in park otherwise there will be difficulty releasing from park to reverse, when you restart the car..on level parking any sequence would be fine

Actually, some models require stepping on the brake first before starting the car. On my Accord, hindi naman siya required, but I've always made it a habit.

Of course, from P, step on the brakes again to move into any gear.

I think so. Additionally, I let my turbo cool down and put my AC on fan for a while para matuyo at maiwasan ang kalawang sa AC pipes.

yup.. ako din.. break parati before start.. naging habit na..

parang sa stoplight.. pag medyo matagal.. do you shift to N then hand break then release break or hand break then shift to N then release break?
